About Our Service Ryegate House is a six-bedded facility providing 24-hour nursing care and short breaks for children and young people (0-19 years) with complex neurological health conditions. As part of the Helena Specialist Nursing Team, you'll provide personalised, high-quality care in homes, schools, and our facility, offering safe and nurturing respite for families.
About the Role This is a fantastic opportunity to grow your specialised skills in areas such as tracheostomy and ventilation while gaining teaching experience within community settings and the organisation. You'll support daily line management, provide compassionate care to palliative patients and their families, and contribute to service growth. Additionally, you'll become an expert in areas such as sepsis, infection control, and tissue viability.
Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Nurse Team Manager, you will:
1. Provide skilled nursing care
2. Advocate for patients and families, ensuring holistic and seamless care as part of a diverse team
3. Support colleague development and deliver clinical education for team members, patients, families, and external providers
4. Provide leadership to less experienced colleagues, managing the service in the Team Manager's absence
5. Assist the Team Manager in maintaining quality of care, managing resources, and representing the team at relevant meetings
About You: We're looking for someone with:
1. Notable nursing experience, including the completion of your newly qualified nursing programme and Intravenous training
2. Understanding of the Senior Staff Nurse role
3. Experience making a difference to children and young people with complex needs
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Degree or Diploma Level Education as Registered Nurse (RN Child, RNLD or RSCN)
* Willingness to undertake speciality specific training
* Teaching, Mentoring and Assessors qualification
* Current registration with NMC
* Willingness to undertake study at degree level
* Relevant Post Basic registration Course
Experience
* Substantive staffing experience within paediatrics and evidence of competencies achieved
* Mentoring experience with nursing students and one-to-one teaching of junior staff
* Ability to demonstrate a commitment to professional development
* Staffing experience within specialty
* Relevant project work
* Understanding of budgetary or resource management
Knowledge and Skills
* Role of Senior Staff Nurse and ability to work within and lead a team
* Understanding of the clinical governance agenda
* Experience of undertaking the audit process
* Health, Safety and Risk awareness
* Awareness of resource management
* Health & Safety Safe Practices e.g. Moving and Handling, Sharps, COSHH, Information Governance
* Responsibility for safe practices of Infection Control principles
* Principles of Safeguarding of children & training to Level 3
* Experience in Nursing Speciality of ward or department
* Able to demonstrate involvement and understanding of the Research process
* Current certificates to show relevant study and e-learning

Salary: £37,338 to £44,962 a year per annum pro rata
