Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Project Engineer

Job purpose
This job role is to act as technical lead for all Instrument and Electrical installations on all capital projects at the Edinburgh and Annan sites. Ensuring all designs and installations are carried out in accordance with the site engineering standards.
Principal accountabilities
• Act as the site E+I SME on all CAPEX designs and installations.
• Manage contract E+I discipline engineers, ensuring they comply with the business standards.
• Manage the project EPC contractor to ensure their designs are in compliance with the site standards and support them with the prompt answers to TQs received.
• Ensure all CAPEX projects are suitably scoped with regards to any proposed E+I activity
• Liaise with Maintenance & Compliance teams to ensure E+I proposals are aligned to the site requirements.
• Responsible for budget control and reporting for all projects under their direction
• Mange Functional Safety compliance on CAPEX projects, ensuring on-going conformance to Functional Safety Lifecycle requirements of IEC 61508 / 61511. including verification of design / installation and system certification.
• Ensure new E&I equipment installed are assessed for (Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality impact) with appropriate PM tasks identified
• Ensure critical spares for new installations have been identified and ordered.
• Provide technical input where requested into the current site standards to ensure they remain up to date and aligned with current best practice.
• Effectively plan resource for all E+I activity on CAPEX projects
• Ensure IS calculations and loop drawings are updated for all CAPEX projects
• Provide hands on support during project handover
• Support training of the operational teams for any new installations
• Ensure qualification / quality obligations are met for all project I & E activity.
• Provide technical guidance to all departments, including root cause analysis, troubleshooting and fault finding of E&I issues
• Provide add-hoc technical support to maintenance and compliance teams for any ongoing operational issues on plant.
• To take on any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
Scope
• The scope of the role covers Capital Projects across both Edinburgh and Annan
• The role will cover projects in the 1-3 year planning horizon with project support for project execution in the 0-12 months
• The role involves a high degree of planning, organising and computer skills
• The role involves excellent multi tasking and time management
• This role will liaise with external contractors, internal contractors, and internal operational departments
• The role will have budget responsibility for projects potentially exceeding £1 million as well as multiple projects £25k-£500k.
Special factors
• Working extended hours/ weekends as required under each project to ensure delivery during critical shutdown windows
• Willing to travel between both the Edinburgh and Annan sites on a regular basis to monitor ongoing project progress.
Person specification
Qualifications/ knowledge/experience
Qualified in Electrical, Instrumentation & control – preferably chartered Essential
Experience and proven track record of delivering complex engineering E+I projects
Essential
Experience of permit to work systems (including working at height, confined space, isolations) Essential
Experience of project budget control and reporting Essential
Experience leading a team of discipline E+I engineers in a project environment Essential
Experience with installations in hazardous areas (ATEX) Essential
Functional safety experience Desirable
