As a Construction Estimator, you will be instrumental in developing accurate, comprehensive cost estimates for our construction projects within the Facilities Management sector. Your role will be crucial in helping us secure new business and deliver profitable projects through precise estimation and effective cost control. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of construction processes, keen analytical skills, and a meticulous attention to detail. Key Responsibilities: • Project Analysis: Carefully review project plans, specifications, and other relevant documentation to fully understand project requirements and objectives, identifying all elements that impact costs. • Tender & Bid Management: Oversee all aspects of tender and bid activities, from initial enquiry and take-offs through to detailed pricing, preparation, and submission. Ensure all tenders are accurate, comprehensive, and align with both client specifications and company standards. • Site Assessments: Conduct on-site visits as needed to gather essential information, verify project conditions, and identify any unique site characteristics that could affect costs or logistics. • Subcontract & Supplier Coordination: Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers, meeting with them as necessary to ensure they understand specific service standards and our company’s terms and conditions. • Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Analyse project scope and specifications to identify potential risks, challenges, and cost-impacting factors, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks. • Collaboration & Input Gathering: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather and incorporate input from all relevant parties, ensuring that estimates are grounded in practical project insights. • Detailed Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates, breaking down labour, materials, equipment, subcontractor, and other relevant costs to ensure transparency and precision in budgeting. • Estimating Software Utilisation: Use advanced estimating software and tools to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and consistency in cost estimation processes. • Client Presentation & Clarification: Present and explain cost estimates to clients, providing clarity on cost breakdowns, addressing questions, and making adjustments as required. • Ongoing Cost Monitoring: Track and monitor project costs throughout the lifecycle of construction, adjusting estimates or forecasts as necessary to ensure budget adherence and profitability. • Executive Liaison: Regularly liaise with Directors and other senior leaders to discuss project specifications, assess risks, agree on rates, installation requirements, and profit margins to align estimates with business objectives. Experience and Qualifications: • Proven Construction Estimation Expertise: Demonstrable experience as an Estimator in the construction industry, ideally within Facilities Management or a similar sector. • Comprehensive Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, methods, and equipment, with the ability to anticipate and plan for project-specific needs. • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in the use of estimating software and tools to streamline estimation processes and enhance accuracy. • Analytical & Mathematical Skills: Excellent analytical abilities and mathematical skills to ensure precision in cost calculations and risk assessment. • Meticulous Attention to Detail: High degree of accuracy, organisational skills, and attention to detail to produce reliable and error-free estimates. • Effective Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of clearly articulating complex information to clients and colleagues alike. • Blueprint & Specification Interpretation: Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and project specifications, with the ability to translate these documents into accurate cost projections.
