Cabinet Office Security Team
The Cabinet Office (CO) Security and Resilience (COSR) Team is the lead organisation for managing Security and Resilience within the Department. The remit covers providing advice, support and guidance to individuals and management units so as to manage a wide range of security-related threats and acting as the central focus for wider security policy issues affecting the entire department.
Job description
We are recruiting for a STRAP Security Officer to assist one of the Arm’s Length Bodies (ALB) in London.
STRAP is a regime that regulates access to sensitive intelligence material which requires more protective handling than is afforded by the standard arrangements for government assets. The Security Team is responsible for all aspects of STRAP security and higher classification IT, in conjunction with our accreditors.
The Security Team, are looking for a talented and motivated individual who is a team player but is equally comfortable working on their own. To assure the integrity of highly classified and sensitive material and facilities across the ALB and ensure the security measures employed are effective in protecting the materials and the environment. Daily tasks will require the management of competing work streams of varying priorities and delivering advice to a wide grade range of staff.
As part of a team of security professionals, you will be using your skills and expertise to:
* Provide secure administrative management and control of material and environments, in order to protect highly sensitive material and maintain the external accreditation for the ALB.
* Provide a dedicated point of reference within secure environments for specialised classified IT and related matters to assist colleagues at all grades in making effective decisions with regards to security and the handling of highly classified material.
* Support good information management compliance in accordance with policies, procedures and government standards, in relation to access to and use of classified material and classified IT.
* Support the wider security function of protecting and securing our personnel, physical and information assets across the ALB.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage routine security and access control to secure environments in accordance with associated security standards, engaging with the authorities where required.
* Provide day to day advice and assistance to colleagues regarding sensitive material and IT systems.
* Lead on aspects of liaison with key partners across Government, ensuring the ALBis fully informed on Cabinet Office policy relating to security matters.
* Manage and administer applications for clearances and role changes, liaising with line management, other teams in the ALB, and external partners, regarding sensitive enquiries as necessary.
* Manage/administer account applications and access to IT, in conjunction with colleagues and the external service providers.
* Maintenance of accurate records of inductions and IT accounts to ensure appropriate access in support of the ALB objectives.
* Conduct briefings and familiarisation sessions for IT systems to colleagues of all grades.
* Manage access to secure meeting rooms and video conferencing facilities, liaising with partners across government regarding clearances and related matters.
* Investigate and accurately record security incidents or breaches, liaising with the ALB security team and other partners, in order to resolve and provide informed security recommendations.
* Any other work in support of the Security & Resilience team’s objectives as required.
Note: Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will be based in a secure environment with limited opportunities for remote working. There will be some requirements for travel to other ALB secure environments.
