Working as a member of the maintenance team, the Apprentice Maintenance Engineer will work under the supervision of a Maintenance Engineer providing engineering skills in maintenance, repair and installation functions of our plant, equipment and infrastructure.\n\nThe apprentice will attend a training establishment as required to complete a Modern Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.\n\nThe apprentice will gain hands on operational experience by working closely with the maintenance team assisting with periodic maintenance, inspection, service and repair and the installation of new equipment in a variety of port buildings and plant including cranes, vehicles, roll-on/roll-off facilities, small craft, generators, small plant, tools, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. How to use machine tools, design and build mechanical systems, and understand engineering principles.\nHow to carry out work in a safe and efficient manner and in line with business Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures and current legislation.\n National 5 qualification in Maths and ideally National 4 in a technical subject (e.g. Engineering Science, Design and Manufacture).\nDemonstrated interest in mechanics, or an interest in diagnosing and repairing faults.\nAbility to work well within a team.\nBe pro-active and able to demonstrate initiative.\nA sound knowledge of the importance of Health and Safety procedures, and a proactive approach to ensuring safety.\nDemonstrate a methodical approach to problem solving.\nThe ability to work effectively in a demanding environment.\nAbility to communicate effectively with colleagues.\nGood IT skills.
