The role Based at the Smart Internet Lab, the Communications Officer will work with the Director and the Manager of Smart Internet Lab to help develop and deliver a range of communications to raise the profile of the lab and other activities to internal and external audiences and other key stakeholders. The Smart Internet Lab is one of the UK’s most renowned Information and Communications Technology research centres delivering research on the future of internet technologies and telecommunications. The role holder will be part of team of professional services staff supporting the Smart Internet Lab community of over 200 academics and researchers, enabling them to deliver world-leading research. What will you be doing? You will work to develop communications plans and design engaging targeted content & messages tailored and suitable for use across a range of channels (digital/traditional communication channels) to reach identified target audiences. You will liaise with academic & non-academic colleagues to actively source content that furthers communication objectives. Identify news items deserving a high profile and of interest to a wider audience relating to the Smart Internet Lab, collate news, organise and write monthly newsletters, news stories, social media posts & web content. Prepare, write and deliver and/or co-ordinate the production of communications materials (digital and print) in line with accessibility standards and university branding and other guidelines. Ensure all content accurately reflects the University and/or the Smart Internet Lab communication policies, such as brand or visual identity guidelines, and adheres to GDPR and other relevant legislation or guidelines. Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues in the team to plan and implement projects. You should apply if We are looking for a talented communications manager to join our team. The ideal post holder will have excellent writing skills, with an ability to draft strong news releases, first-person pieces, media pitches & social media posts. You will have experience of producing compelling copy, handle media enquiries and shape our social media content. You will work closely with colleagues within Smart Internet Lab, internal and external partners, working in a complex organisation and demonstrating a high-level of autonomy. You will be able to use judgment and initiative to deal with unforeseen problems with limited guidance. You will have experience of developing and implementing communication strategies, high degree of organisation and ability to work towards tight deadlines.
