This is a bank role for just weekend shifts. The sleepover is a non-wake night.
NO SPONSORSHIP OFFERED.
Purpose of the Role:
Positive Behaviour Support Coaches are employed by KASBAH to support people with learning and/or physical disabilities towards independence within a Supported Living setting. The role requires the post holders to provide varying degrees of support, assistance, training and practice to residents, depending on their individual needs, and contribute to the effective and safe delivery of high-quality professional services and facilities. To promote effective participation and enhance specific learning for the individual to achieve their full potential.
The role requires staff to actively use the skills, knowledge, and training that KASBAH invests in them.
This includes personal care tasks (KASBAH is a CQC registered provider) in line with KASBAH's ethos of promoting independence.
Responsibilities and Supervision:
1. Positive Behaviour Support Coaches are responsible for the residents on site in regards to supervision (especially in the kitchen), training activities, general support, and communication when residents are off-site, in addition to allocated key worker duties.
2. Positive Behaviour Support Coaches will take responsibility for supervising residents and ensuring the training and services provided are of the highest standards and quality.
3. Positive Behaviour Support Coaches will have an understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and how to reflect this in their practice.
4. A Positive Behaviour Support Coach looks for the cause of behaviour rather than focusing on the behaviour being presented.
5. Understand the need for being proactive with planning as opposed to being reactive, this includes thorough risk assessing and knowledge of each resident.
6. To have full commitment in practicing the Low Arousal Approach; being aware of the need to always appear calm and to not escalate situations through own behaviour.
7. To devise and implement Individual Care Plans, Monthly Progress Reports, Goal Planners, and Weekly Planners for those you key work.
8. Constant supervision is required for all residents outside of the home; this varies from shared support, 1:1 support, and 2:1 support depending on the residents and their support needs.
9. To co-ordinate, facilitate, implement, and deliver identified training, support, and assistance to residents, which will enable them to live as independently as individual circumstances permit.
10. To contribute and promote positive activities within the home and community settings, to support learning, participation, and social inclusion.
11. To identify the training and support needs to overcome barriers to progression.
12. Positive Behaviour Support Coaches may be expected to key work one resident; this will be reviewed regularly by the House Manager, key worker interviews or thought logs must take place weekly.
13. To ensure all training and practice is carried out with due regard to the safety of all residents, staff, and members of the public.
14. All staff have a personal responsibility in regard to Health and Safety; any potential issues/hazards must be reported to the nominated Health and Safety Officer.
15. To ensure residents are offered support, assistance, and encouragement in their efforts to achieve independence.
16. To acknowledge that some personal care support is required (mainly hair washing). Some residents require supervision during personal care tasks, where there is a strong emphasis on staff empowering residents to manage their personal care as independently as possible- this is achieved via staff role play (resident mimicking staff’s actions) and verbal instructions being given from staff.
17. Ensure this service provision is person-centred and that all residents make informed choices by being aware of the options and associated risks.
18. Ensure any items purchased for the service are authorised and receipts are gained.
19. To promote community presence and support residents to engage in social activities at the weekend during the day and evening.
20. Positive Behaviour Support Coaches will take an active role in training and mentoring new staff and volunteers.
