Your experience in any industry is valuable to us here at Southern Water. You have the opportunity to earn a great initial salary package starting at £25,371 plus a shift allowance and a great company benefits package, in a role with stability and progression combined. You will be part of frontline operation in our Thanet supply zone, and the business simply cannot operate without you. Every day is different, you will be working in all conditions carrying out a range of tasks, to ensure the essential functions of several water treatment works operate to maintain supply to our customers and protect the environment.
Joining us as a Process Operator could prepare you well for future roles across the business. Process operators have gone on to achieve roles in management to Field Performance Manager level, and indirect pathways to Process Science roles – these are the technical experts in the process operation arena. You may also gain indirect knowledge in mechanical and electrical specialisms, and this could prove to be a future field of study with the skills you will gain. Southern Water can support this ambition with technical and soft skill training.
Although planned work is scheduled generated to you on a weekly basis, you will be managing your own time, giving you the freedom and flexibility to design your own working week, you will learn how to be organised and proactive.
To operate and maintain a network of water supply works, with your team you will:
1. Undertake regular testing of water quality, to validate that automatic water treatment assets and equipment are functioning correctly.
2. Respond to alarms generated by our site telemetry monitoring systems.
3. Monitor, collate and report data on site to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance.
4. Fault find and contribute to problem-solving as part of our response to fix asset breakdowns.
5. Undertake inspections and cleaning to ensure site hygiene in line with our regulatory obligations.
You will be:
* Comfortable working outdoors, potentially in all weather conditions.
* Prepared to work within the company’s rota of a 7-day working week and participate on a standby rota.
* Part of a team who delivers excellent performance by understanding how you affect the overall mission of Southern Water.
* Adaptable, flexible, patient, reliable and self-motivated.
* Good with time management.
* Confident to work effectively and efficiently on your own.
* Keen to learn and operate complex processes with high quality controls.
Qualifications:
* GCSEs grade 3 including Maths, English and Science.
* Valid UK Drivers Licence – standby requirements and weekend working require.
