About the role
Join Boots’ Nottingham-based Digital team. We're looking for a Data Scientist experienced with digital analytics data, who can help Digital understand its customers and deliver its goals by applying advanced analytics on big datasets, and lead better decisions by colleagues and data-driven products.
This role reports into the Head of Digital Analytics in the Boots Digital team. Boots aims to create the most compelling omnichannel beauty and health experience in the UK. You will contribute to this goal by enabling the digital team to have a deep understanding of our customers through our data. You will first and foremost be an expert in digital datasets such as Google Analytics, applying advanced analytics to develop insights into patterns, causal factors, and predictions of future performance on key themes like customer acquisition, retention, and conversion. You will develop data products from these insights, by extending the capabilities of our automated dashboards, producing insights to communicate to different stakeholders, and driving new segmentation and personalisation activation through onsite and offsite activities. You will have a wide remit to prioritise the most valuable data science projects that align with our departmental and team objectives, which can lean into other applications of data science.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
1. Advanced Analytics and Statistics: Apply advanced statistical and analytical techniques to reveal the causal factors of our performance and customer behaviour from business activities and external factors, enhancing our ability to direct decisions, strategy, investment, driving business growth and improving the customer experience.
2. Understand our customers: Use data to uncover key insights on our customers and translate these into opportunities for growth & experience improvement, such as new segmentation opportunities for onsite and offsite personalisation.
3. Predictive Modelling: Build predictive models that accurately forecast business performance across important business dimensions, such as acquisition through digital marketing, category and brand sales, customer behaviour changes and the risks and opportunities for our business. Create data products that improve and enhance the website experience for our customers.
4. Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for data science within the Digital Analytics team. Clearly communicate complex statistical concepts and findings to non-technical partners, including senior management.
5. Bridging the gap: Act as the key link between Data Science and Digital Analytics within Boots, bringing both areas closer together, sharing insights, ways of working, methodologies and more to each team, proliferating the use of and extending the value of our investment in digital data.
6. Develop our data: Support the digital analytics team’s data engineering efforts to produce datasets for ingestion into dashboards and data-driven products.
7. Strategic Roadmap Development: Collaborate with the Digital Analytics team to design and implement a roadmap of projects that align with our goals, to achieve annual revenue targets.
8. Innovation and Problem Solving: Proactively identify opportunities where data science can be used to solve customer pain points and improve user experience.
9. Continuous Learning: Proactively enhance your data science skills and stay up to date with industry trends to ensure your work remains the latest and aligned with the future direction of the business.

* Strong expertise in statistical analysis and predictive modelling.
* Proficiency in Python.
* Experience with AI and machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems.
* Knowledge of digital datasets such as Google Analytics, voice of the customer, behaviour and frustration analytics, advertising and marketing, and how to apply them within a digital environment.
* Confident in building statistical models from real-world data (potentially very large, unclean and unstructured datasets).
* Able to write performant code, including operating in real-time environments.
* The ability to prioritise data science projects based on value, effort and feasibility.
It would be great if you also have
* An understanding of digital data production and collection e.g. tag management.
* Experience of Databricks.
* Experience deploying machine learning models.
