Would you like to support three active and fun-loving gentlemen in their 70s to make the most of their lives? To participate in activities both inside the home and out in the community, as part of a Supported Living service with an ‘outstanding’ CQC rating?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a support worker to join an established team at 28 Radley Road, a Supported Living service situated close to Fishponds Straits. The service provides 24hr support to three gentlemen with Learning Disabilities.
The gents have only lived here for a little under 2 years but are all much more confident and independent and would like someone who has person-centred values, is enthusiastic, patient, an excellent communicator and is willing to support them to continue on their journey in life to join their support team.
You would be joining an enthusiastic and supportive team who are willing to share their knowledge of the gents with you. In-house induction would be provided by the gents and the team to support you with your role, as well as induction training provided by Milestones Trust.
The three gentlemen need assistance with all aspects of their lives, from personal care needs, menu planning and cooking, household chores and shopping, support with medication and health needs to attending appointments, liaising with other support services, finances/paperwork and developing support plans (some IT skills are needed).
You will support them with communicating their needs and wishes and achieving their goals, and support them to go out and about to local shops, cafes, pubs, local walks and also further afield, as well as with in-house activities such as baking, art and crafts, boccia, board games, dancing to YouTube videos, and gardening.
Although the gents are in their 70’s, they will still keep you busy all day as they are very active people who want to make the most of their lives!
The gents make regular use of ‘car club’ so although not essential, a driver would be preferable.
The three gents expect their team to support them at their pace and be willing to participate in all the activities that they enjoy. Someone who also has empathy and understanding about the issues that can affect older people and to problem-solve as issues arise.
The shifts are 08:00 - 15:30 and long day sleep-ins (10:00-23:00 Sleep 07:00-10:00).
