Your New Role
National Engineering Contractor with a growing team and enviable footprint of projects across the country have a requirement for an experienced CONTRACTS MANAGER to join their team on a permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an expanding Contractor as they extend their presence in the Scottish Construction Industry.
Responsibilities overview
· Dependant on value, oversee one or multiple sites consecutively.
· Accurately interpret and understand contract documents and construction programmes.
· Line Manager for Site Manager on site.
· Monitor project budgets, ensuring the financial objectives are met and the project is moving withing the specified budget.
· Implement cost control measures and strategies to minimise project overruns.
· Review and approve project cost changes as appropriate.
· Develop and maintain project programme and ensure milestones are met according to the payment schedule.
· Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure construction meets construction industry standards and client expectations.
· Liaise with the Site Manager to co-ordinate the use and installation of correct materials to prevent any potential on-site issues.
· Maintain open and effective communication with clients, site teams and other stakeholders.
· Provide regular updates through written reports, photos, and meetings.
· Address and resolve any issues or concerns raised by stakeholders in a timely manner.
· Lead on project status updates via project programmes, weekly returns, and monthly reporting.
Project pre-start
· Review tender docs to ensure full understanding of scope, programme, resource allocated etc.
· Attend Internal & External Pre-Start Kick Off Meeting
· Ensure all QHSE documentation is prepared & submitted to the client in accordance with the programme.
· Agree Plant, Labour & Materials requirements in conjunction with the Plant & Labour Manager & Site Manager
· Ensure any long lead time items are procured in a timely manner.
Daily
· Daily check-in call with each Site Manager to review planned works for the day.
· Review upcoming works and ensure all of the right things are in place to prevent any delays to programme, resolve any blockers that could delay the works in priority order.
· Process any reports from site about a potential time or cost impact in conjunction with the QS.
· Check Daily Diaries & site records for any delays / additional works that needs to be communicated formally.
· Lead on project strategy, including communication to the client.
· Encourage site teams to raise positive / negative observations.
Weekly
· Update Project Programme based on actuals to date and forecast to completion, mitigating delays where possible.
· Set Up & Chair Weekly Progress Meeting, ensuring all previous actions have been closed out and minutes issued internally.
· Review labour & plant on site and raise any concerns with site team.
· Site Visit, including Weekly Site Inspection and follow up on any actions raised.
· Approval of invoices raised on your projects, ensuring that they have a PO, costs are agreed and are within budget.
· Review & approve project timesheets, for processing of wages and cost control.
Monthly
· Attend Monthly Project Review Meeting with Managing Director
· Update Project Budget based on actuals to date and forecast to completion.
· Issue Project Programme to client, including all ‘as built’ information to date.
Candidate Requirements
· Proven experience in construction project management, with a track record of successfully delivering projects.
· SMSTS or equivalent
· Good Communication and IT skills (MS suite)
· A good commercial awareness around running projects and strong technical understanding of construction methods, regulations, and materials.
· Work alongside other supporting functions to ensure site productivity is met.
· Ability to manage time efficiently between travelling to sites and carrying out the necessary tasks and managing their administrative responsibilities alongside.
· Strong Leadership with site teams
