Job Title: Power Systems Design Lead
Salary: up to £65,000 per annum dependent upon experience + 10% bonus
Location: Chelmsford or Cowes (Isle of Wight)
We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Power Systems Design Lead. The role can be based in either Chelmsford or Cowes (Isle of Wight) and offers the opportunity for hybrid working (2-3 days per week on site) and flexible working hours.
You will be joining the Radar Development team who are embarking on new and cutting edge technology developments for the future generation of Radar and Sensor Systems.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Design of AC & DC power generation and distribution systems including sizing, protection, control, and the specification of power supplies and converters.
2. Motor drives, control, and positioning systems.
3. EMC management and verification.
4. Specification of bespoke procured hardware and management of associated sub-contractor development programmes.
5. Design verification using a combination of simulation, analysis, and test techniques including support to EMC test houses and customer installations.
6. Generate design documentation and technical reports.
7. Interfacing with related disciplines.
8. Adherence to Engineering Lifecycle and contributing to progress, peer, and design reviews.
9. Provide Electrical Engineering expertise to the project team.
About You:
The role holder will have a degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or strongly related subject, and have experience in one or more of the following areas:
1. Specification or design of electrical power systems including AC to DC conversion, distribution, regulation and conditioning.
2. Previous experience of operating in a defence or high safety integrity environment.
3. Familiarity with Electrical Safety Standards, and ideally EMC qualification to DEF STAN 59-411.
4. Design proving, integration, and defect resolution.
5. Familiarity with relevant modelling tools such as Matlab/Simulink would be beneficial.
6. A rigorous approach to the safety aspects associated with high power/high voltage equipment.
You must be eligible to apply for SC clearance and, therefore, must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years.
