About the Role:
The role will own and be responsible for all areas related to Direct Tax within the Everest International remit (which encompasses all Insurance and Reinsurance businesses outside of North America). That entails responsibility for all reporting and provisioning requirements covering all GAAPs, maintaining timely compliance submissions, tax advisory, development of required processes and supporting all group expansion projects.
There is a lot to be achieved within the Tax area to maintain a compliant and tax efficient approach, in order to achieve this we need the right balance between internal and external resource. The required processes and balance will need to be considered and developed.
Role & Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
Own the income tax provision process and related tax compliance:
1. Work collegiately on the BAU direct tax reporting and compliance requirement including tax payments, and optimisation of accounting/ tax processes
2. Manage a heavy compliance burden, the team will act as a central point of contact for liaison with colleagues and 3rd party compliance providers
3. Develop an understanding of the underlying systems, available technology, accounting and financial systems in order to source the required data and identify areas of improvement
4. Experience with data wrangling tools (e.g. Alteryx and similar), a technical ability and a focus on systems and process, with a willingness to learn about available technology
5. Implement controls as required and ensure appropriate governance is in place
6. Adapt the tax compliance offering as Everests’ operations grow and expand into further territories, lines of business etc.
7. Model implementation scenarios (“what ifs” and forecasts)
Assist with other Tax areas:
8. Tax advisory and general business guidance will be important to help guide Everest through its current journey
9. Structuring consideration will be required to ensure we have an appropriate legal entity and operational structure in place
10. Due to the current tax environment with more aggressive tax authorities and fundamental changes being driven across the board, by the likes of BEPS 2.0, we need to be aware of our position, available data, and risk mitigation approach
11. Business liaison and project control across all areas of tax exposure
Wider Tax support:
12. Assist with the proposed territorial expansion
13. Consider, communicate and help implement our short, medium, and long term strategy
14. Work with all tax colleagues to identify and implement opportunities to further improve our compliance process (via automation and/ or future operating model changes) by continuously evaluating technology and automation solutions
15. An awareness of TP to assist where required
16. Help with the management of the underlying tax resource pool, whether internal tax specific resource, the shadow tax function (e.g. Financial Ops teams) and/ or outsourced compliance services where Everest uses 3rd parties
17. Assist with the development, oversight and maintenance of the various compliance dashboards that we are looking to introduce
18. Assisting with tax audits where applicable
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies :
19. The role holder will need to be able to roll up their sleeves and be happy to investigate the ledgers in order to manage and complete the BAU where needed as well as handle the pressure to assist in developing the tax teams strategy and approach whilst working through the ambitious change agenda the wider Everest business is facing.
20. Insurance Experience, with Lloyds Syndicate knowledge being favourable.
21. Confidence in dealing with a Multinational Insurance Company and its tax reporting process through multiple GAAPs as this is a major area of early responsibility for the role.
22. Technologically literate with working knowledge of accounting systems such as PeopleSoft and oracle.
23. Ability to manage a global Direct Tax function, currently there will be 1 person reporting into this role.
24. There will be a need for business travel within our regions (mainly European) and to the US.
