Instrument Cluster Engineer (930)
Location: Cranfield
Hourly Rate: £29.00 p/h
We are recruiting for an Instrument Cluster Engineer to work with a globally recognised automotive company based in Cranfield. This is a long-term contract role, potentially extending for several years.
Key Responsibilities:
• Development of Instrument Cluster, Head-Up Displays, and other displays to meet client design and test standards.
• Supplier management to ensure parts meet cost, quality, and timing requirements.
• Maintain and manage physical part BOM (Bill of Materials) and configuration data for the client's manufacturing plant.
• Prepare functional specifications through collaboration with system owners, customer-oriented engineering, styling, and trim engineers.
• Present development status during internal design reviews.
• Review and approve part drawings from suppliers.
• Manage validation of parts with in-house teams and suppliers.
• Support vehicle development builds at manufacturing plants, resolving issues as they arise.
• Lead vehicle life cycle cost reduction initiatives and warranty investigations.
• Ensure closure of quality concerns and no BOM or configuration errors affecting vehicle builds.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
• Relevant Engineering degree or equivalent.
• Understanding of basic electrical theory.
• Experience in developing HMI (Human-Machine Interface) parts.
• Familiar with automotive electrical architecture.
• Minimum 1-year exposure to CAN communication.
• Familiar with software development V cycle and validation methods.
• At least 2 years of experience in similar roles within automotive or equivalent sectors.
• Experience in HMI specification creation.
• Well-organised with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to travel in the UK and abroad, sometimes at short notice.
Beneficial:
• Experience in automotive BOM & configuration management.
• Understanding of manufacturing techniques used for Instrument Cluster components.
• Knowledge of parts cost drivers and budget setting.
• Familiar with the JIRA concern management tool.
• Knowledge of 3D CAD tools and processes.
Hours & Pay:
• Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week.
• Hourly rate: £29.00 p/h.
