OPERATIONS MANAGER
Midlands, UK ref: 1851
Our client, a large brewery based in the Midlands, is looking to recruit an Operations Manager to provide leadership and drive performance excellence in order to build a culture of engagement and continuous improvement to develop world class people and processes.
The successful candidate will champion change in all aspects of operations to achieve the lowest cost base while meeting quality and service requirements, also ensuring health, safety and environmental compliance standards are met.
They will also build and execute strategic plans ensuring the team remains focused on delivering results and build capability that will enable the brewery to become a leader in best practice.
Key Accountabilities
1. Effective performance management of all direct reports, focusing on behavioural change that will both inspire and motivate individuals to deliver results.
2. Develop a behavioural safety culture and promote a safe working environment by ensuring full compliance with all policy and process.
3. Recruit, lead, motivate and develop a flexible and agile multi-disciplined production team.
4. Set clear development strategy for team ensuring key targets and objectives will be achieved relating to quality, service, people and cost.
5. Effectively communicate strategic plans, regular business performance updates and local KPI performance to teams and department manager.
6. Take lead role in delivering improvement around Good Manufacturing Practice, embedding working practices that will deliver sustainable results creating pride within the workplace.
7. Ensure that the team adheres to all quality standards including food safety, hygiene and BRC compliance and drive continuous improvement in the department’s quality, customer service, environmental performance and RFT mentality.
8. Remain a visible presence on shop floor ensuring consistent process confirmation of adherence to standards.
9. Take responsibility for department level KPIs, including daily confirmation of service targets, engaging team to find solutions to variance using 5 why mentality, regularly review department performance collectively with peers sharing best practice across shifts.
10. To help prepare and gain approval of the annual budgets for the Operations function and once agreed ensure that all the targets are met and/or exceeded.
11. Deliver cost saving initiatives through teams rewarding success and building individual capability.
12. Develop clear processes for managing material and non-material losses engaging teams to find sustainable solutions.
Professional Qualifications/Experience
1. Qualified to degree level or of graduate calibre with demonstrable experience within a blue-chip food manufacturing / FMCG company.
2. Ideally holding a recognised brewing qualification, typically IBD Diploma or equivalent. Preferably studying for IBD Master Brewer or equivalent.
3. Knowledge and experience of using Lean tools and techniques to deliver sustained improvements that will drive us to a world class performance.
4. Knowledge of key standards in Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental would be advantageous.
5. Takes responsibility for personal development and obtains the technical knowledge required to make key decisions.
6. Significant operational manufacturing experience & knowledge (products, processes, maintenance) within an FMCG context.
7. Role will require a high degree of flexibility, ability to operate on shift and day based will be required along with the need to attend management reviews between shifts.
8. Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement techniques.
9. Strong experience in a Unionised background and dealing with complex Employee Relations environments.
