(FTC) Lead Engineer (Artillery)
Hybrid – Bristol 1-2 days per week, plus UK & US travel
£60k - £70k p/a (pro rata)

We are looking for a skilled, Fixed Term Contract, Lead Engineer to join the newly formed Artillery Systems Team at MOD Abbey Wood. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of delivering cutting-edge artillery capabilities for the British Army.
As the FTC Lead Engineer, you will take a pivotal role in shaping the future of artillery systems by leading all engineering aspects of the acquisition lifecycle. From technical requirements and safety management to interfacing with industry, you will ensure the successful delivery of the platforms to meet British Army standards.
The FTC Lead Engineer will also be required to travel routinely between sites, (AHQ, Larkhill Garrison), as well as undertake international travel to the United States up to 4 times per year.
This challenging role will require you to solve complex technical problems, develop and implement engineering management plans, and act as the technical authority throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Your Responsibilities
* Manage all engineering aspects of the project, including acquisition safety and lifecycle management.
* Provide technical advice and identify application risks to ensure successful project outcomes.
* Implement governance policies to maintain the “safe and professional” status of the team.
* Requirements Management: Lead the development of performance criteria, acceptance plans, and draft specifications.
* Act as the intelligent customer, scrutinising and collaborating with industry partners.
* Drive the creation of key documents such as the Engineering Management Plan, System Requirements Document, Safety Case, and Test, Evaluation, and Acceptance Strategy.
What We’re Looking For
* Previous experience of working in a defence environment, in particular with land vehicles.
* Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent skills and knowledge).
* Membership in a relevant Professional Engineering/Science Institute.
* Level 4 qualification (or higher) or equivalent experience.
* Proven ability to provide technical advice and lead successful engineering outcomes.
* Deep technical expertise with systems engineering approaches.
* Familiarity with FMS cases and US standards.
* Background in Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions, and Explosives (WOME)
