Job purpose
A unique opportunity exists to provide Instrument Technician support to a fast-paced R&D environment, taking ownership of technician tasks during the installation, commissioning and operational maintenance of pilot plants, bespoke research engineering equipment and associated infrastructure across both the Billingham and Stockton sites. The role would be predominantly working within a project build team, therefore installation and commissioning skills would be of benefit.
Significant investment is now ongoing within the R&D business to expand our capability and transform our operations, focussing on construction of new assets & upgrades to existing assets. Our R&D environment contains over ten thousand field devices attached to over 100 varied automation solutions; this role allows a large degree of autonomy, and provides good opportunities for technical development and growth, fully supported by the wider I&C engineering team.

Your responsibilities:
As an Instrument Technician working within a multi disciplined team, you will be responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining instrumentation on pilot plants, bespoke research engineering equipment and associated infrastructure. The applicant s hould be capable of understanding a variety of standard field instrumentation,
Assemble, install, carry out preventative maintenance, repair, diagnose faults, remove, replace & dissemble instrumentation and control systems and their associated system components to comply with relevant standards
Calibration of instrumentation and safety critical sensors (e.g. gas detectors).
Assist in the diagnosis and repair of equipment during commissioning and breakdowns through fault finding.
Liaise with project / maintenance engineers and team leaders to coordinate planned works.
Requirements for the role:
Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship as Engineering Technician or similar (Essential) with at least 3 years' experience in a relevant role following apprenticeship completion.
Experience in the Chemical or Manufacturing Industry with demonstrable job specific skills
Experience working in a research and development, pilot plant or laboratory scale operating environments which are subject to change
Knowledge, skills, and attitude to resolve discipline specific problems autonomously, while managing own workload when required.
Understand the types of defects and testing anomalies that can occur, how to identify them, and what action to take. Be able to diagnose faults and return to service.
This role is a Monday-Friday working pattern, however occasional weekends may be required.
