An exciting opportunity for a Medical Engineering Assistant Technician has arisen within the Medical Engineering Department based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Lancashire.
The role involves working within a small team responsible for the maintenance, repair,managementand commissioning of a wide range of medical devices used throughout the Trust and in the local community. The role will also include working at Westmorland General Hospital andFurness General Hospital asrequired.
Successful candidates willpossess:
• The ability to communicate effectively with all members of staff,visitorsand patients
• Good organizational skills and be able to manage their own day to day workload.
• Experience of working within an engineering environment with prior knowledge of electrical, electronic systems used within the medical environment.
• ONCin anengineering discipline or equivalent.
• A considerate and tactful approach when workingin close proximity topatients.
• The ability to enter andmaintaincomputerized records.

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
The post will include the following duties
• Service and repair of medical deviceslocatedon the Furness general site and surrounding community operated sites
• Support clinical colleagues with any technical informationrequiredto ensure medical devices are used andoperatedin a safe manner
• Acceptance testing of new medical devices
• Safe Disposal of Medical devices at the end of their clinical life
• Implantation of safety alerts as required by monitoring and regulatory bodies
• Actively work within the services ISO9001 quality system andidentifyareas of improvement
• Undertake the management of delegated secondary duties asrequired, these may include COSSH management, Health and safety department lead, Scrap/Wastemanagement ,Indemnity control for loan devices
