The project\: We have been appointed as delivery partner for the SCAH (Science Capability in Animal Health) programme a 10-year programme for the construction of a new scientific hub at the DEFRA Weybridge site. As delivery partner we are delivering design and construction of enabling, infrastructure and building projects in a live environment on a scientific site of national importance maintaining logistics and operations with technical and construction partners. The commercial contracts manager shall work with other commercial team members and integrate with the wider programme delivery teams to ensure sound commercial delivery. You will contribute to commercial, procurement, preconstruction and delivery stage activity on an ad hoc basis. You’ll be responsible for: Providing day to day commercial contract support to the Mace project team. Building and managing relationships with sub-contractors, monitoring and reporting their performance and compliance. Providing procurement support to the Defra commercial team and advise on best practice for commercial delivery. Supporting the production of ITT documents and associated governance requirements. Supporting project managers with the production of EWs; PMIs; comp events and other contract notices. Negotiating on financial impacts of compensation events with suppliers Maintaining the commercial project data sets to achieve consistency, accuracy and alignment. Supporting the analysis of cost impact for proposed changes to scope/schedule. Feeding into the commercial risk management process. Assisting project managers in the preparation of cost reports and analysis on a work breakdown structure /activity basis, identifying areas of learning and any recommendations for efficiency improvement. Working side by side with the project managers and support the day-to-day management of sub-contractors including the monitoring of programme and performance. You’ll need to have: Previous experience working in the construction sector and managing projects. Experience in a previous commercial position including contract management Practical experience of NEC. Experience of Aconex and excellent data management skills. Working knowledge of PCR. Understanding of value management and programme development and monitoring, ensuring delivery against key milestone targets. Understanding and ability to monitor and measure performance. Enquiring mind; ability to seek out answers under own steam. Ability to identify commercial risks and where appropriate draft commercial terms to suit requirement. Acknowledgement of responsibilities and acceptance of ownership. Excellent interpersonal skills in creating, managing and maintaining relationships, able to converse to clients and peers to director level. You’ll also have: Experience of working on complex construction schemes, delivering multiple packages of work from design through to completion. Ability to demonstrate you understand the importance of service excellence and stakeholder engagement, and you will have the ability to work collaboratively with the full project team. Keen eye for detail and a sound work ethic which ensures a high standard of output. You will strive to provide an inclusive environment and value the safety of our people above all else. Degree in a relevant construction or commercial related qualification. Experience in construction ideally in a commercial role; this will be an excellent position for someone who is keen to grow their career in commercial contract management in the construction industry; you will be keen to learn and a strong sense of personal drive.
