Clinical Engineering Assistant Contracts Manager
To be part of a team of clinical scientists and technicians. The successful applicant will support the management of the existing portfolio of service contracts, which is part of the Medical Device whole lifecycle management. The Clinical Engineering Section is primarily concerned with providing repair, calibration, maintenance, and governance to a wide range of medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic equipment to the Barts Health NHS Trust and to various NHS and private healthcare organisations. Clinical equipment covered incorporates electrical, electronic, mechanical, computer software, and medical gas systems.
The main emphasis of this role is to work closely and assist the Clinical Engineering Contracts Manager. In doing so, the postholder will contribute to other aspects of medical equipment management and maintenance handled by the Department and will support clinical technologists in their work as appropriate.
The Postholder will work closely with internal stakeholders and with service/equipment providers. Ideally, they are expected to have some knowledge and practical experience of biomedical engineering.
Main Duties of the Job
The Postholder will assist the Clinical Engineering Contracts Manager in managing maintenance arrangements provided by external organisations/suppliers covering medical equipment used within Barts Health. Among other duties, it will involve administration, negotiation, auditing, site visits, and more.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* First Degree in Electronics Engineering or Physics
* Evidence of regular attendance at technical training courses at postgraduate diploma level throughout career.
* Registered Clinical Technologist
Experience
* Experience in all aspects of the management of clinical equipment with some involvement in contract or business management.
* Experience with using asset database and other Quality System, finance, and Procurement platforms.
* Biomedical Engineering experience
* Good knowledge of E-Quip asset database, Oracle procurement system, and QPulse portal
Skills
* Excellent IT skills including the ability to generate complex Excel spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office.
* Ability to operationally use and format a computerized equipment management system.
* The post requires some walking, lifting, packing, and unpacking of equipment; therefore, an average level of physical fitness is required.
* Ability to do some physical work, including lifting, packing, and unpacking of equipment.
* Manual dexterity is required to enable accurate data collection in awkward places.
* Able to concentrate when frequently subjected to unpredictable interruptions that result in changes to work patterns.
* Ability to work in a patient environment and on occasions in operating theatres where patients are undergoing surgery.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Able to provide advice, instruction, and training to small groups of nursing, clinical, scientific, and management staff on areas relating to clinical equipment management.
* Good customer relations and interpersonal skills. Able to negotiate with manufacturers, suppliers, nursing, clinical, scientific, and management staff on trust-wide issues relating to clinical equipment management.
* Able to understand hazards posed by and precautions needed when dealing with potentially contaminated clinical equipment.
* The postholder will occasionally be required to work on equipment with potentially hazardous exposed electrical voltages and should be able to recognize these circumstances and take all necessary precautions.
* Good typing skills.
* Ability to concentrate for long periods when entering data or typing complicated scientific or technical documents.
* Able to cope with frequent interruptions to current tasks.
* Ability to supervise, prioritize, and manage the work of a small group of staff involved in equipment audit and verification.
