Contracts and Development Manager (Catering)
Salary: £37,035 - £41,511 per annum
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: Hybrid – office location, County Hall, Northallerton, will be required to be in the office 1 or 2 days per week - this will be flexible to meet business need
We are looking for an experienced individual to join our high-performing Technical Support Team as our Contracts and Development Manager. This is a very exciting and varied role for someone experienced in school catering and wanting to progress their career.
Our Service
NYES Catering provides school meals to over 200 schools across North Yorkshire and the North East of England, including Hull. As part of North Yorkshire Council, the service is customer-focused and driven to provide exceptional standards of food service and the best possible experience for all.
The Role
The primary focus of the role will be to lead the production and development of menus within a set budget and adhering to the school food standards and other legislation such as allergen management. You will line manage three Development Chefs whose primary role is menu development and ensuring our management information system is up to date with all nutritional information. You will oversee this, ensuring the team is fully supported and appraised, and you will ensure the accuracy of information. You will liaise with suppliers to trial new food products, trends, and innovation that will support the uptake of meals and the overall growth of the service.
The role also includes the management of our supplier contracts, such as meat, frozen, ambient goods, and fruit and veg. You will lead on procurement activities on behalf of the service and be the key link between the service and the corporate procurement team. Holding regular contract review meetings with suppliers, you will ensure all KPIs are met, and any supplier complaints are dealt with promptly, ensuring best value is received from our suppliers.
You will take responsibility for marketing the service, liaising with our corporate marketing team, ensuring menus are well designed, printed, and distributed, both in paper and via PDF, alongside any other required media. You will lead on branding projects within schools and internal and external communications, such as staff and customer newsletters. You will also support the management team with the production of tenders for new work as required. You will line manage a Contracts and Development Officer, who will support you with data input onto our saffron management system and provide day-to-day support. You will be required to travel to suppliers and customers as part of the role, for which a mileage allowance will be paid.
What you will bring
You will have knowledge of current guidance and legislation with respect to food safety, allergen control and special diets, health and safety regulations, risk management, and COSHH.
You will also have:
* Understanding of the importance of healthy nutrition and good dietary habits of young people and older adults
* Knowledge and understanding of good catering practice and correct working procedures in a kitchen environment.
* Knowledge and understanding of the cleaning industry and best practice.
* Experience working in good quality catering establishments, including the cooking and service of food or in a relevant supplier or people management role within the catering or cleaning industry.
* Experience of quality systems management
* Experience of managing and evaluating contract/service performance
