We are looking to recruit a friendly, efficient and reliable Porter to our team at Wansbeck General Hospital.
This role is specifically to work as Stores Porter, collecting items and orders from the distribution area to deliver safely and securely to the wards, departments, offices, and other areas of the hospital.
The post holder may also be required to provide a variety of services to patients and departments, including maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, providing a high-quality, efficient customer-oriented Portering service, and compliance with the Trust Patient Confidentiality Policy.
The conveyance and movement of patients by wheelchair, trolley, etc., the collection and delivery of linen, refuse, clinical waste trolleys, food trolleys, stores, beds, bedding, furniture, equipment, and records to designated areas. Sorting of incoming mail and franking of external mail as required, also driving if necessary.
Currently, the hours of work for this role are Monday - Friday 8 am-4 pm; however, some flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the service.

Main Duties of the Job
1. Ensure safe movement and delivery of stores items from distribution to all areas of the hospital.
2. Assist in the direction of patients and visitors.
3. Conveyance and movement of patients by wheelchair, stretcher, etc.
4. Collection and delivery of linen, refuse, clinical waste trolleys, food trolleys, stores, beds, bedding, furniture, equipment, and records to designated areas.
5. Sorting of incoming mail and franking of external mail as required.
6. Reception and movement of medical gas cylinders within Health and Safety guidelines.
7. Removal of refuse from waste bins located outside the hospital entrance daily.
8. Daily cleaning of external areas situated at hospital entrances.
9. Conveyance of deceased patients to the Mortuary.

Job Responsibilities
Primary responsibility for this role is to work as Stores Porter ensuring that items and orders are safely and securely delivered to their destination within the hospital.
The post holder may also be required to provide a comprehensive Porter service to all wards and departments on site, to be flexible in approach to work and undertake other duties that are assigned under the role.
The provision of a high-quality, efficient customer-oriented Portering service and compliance with the Trust Patient Confidentiality Policy.

* It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving license and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role.
Experience and Knowledge
* Previous experience in conflict resolution/physical intervention techniques.
Qualifications
* General education.
* A sound knowledge of Portering and security procedures, and the ability to follow procedures to ensure effective and efficient security systems.
* A recognized qualification issued by the Security Industry Authority, will, if not currently held, be expected to be worked towards and gained within 12 months of appointment.
