An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fixed Term Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Sarcoma Unit. The post holder will have a distinct level of responsibility to patients with Sarcomas undergoing all treatments for primary and metastatic disease. You will provide a comprehensive specialist nursing service to the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, working within an established team of CNS's.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and experienced, enjoys patient contact and working in a multi-disciplinary environment to support the delivery of a quality service. You must be able to demonstrate good communication skills, flexibility, reliability and have an organised approach to work. you will be expected to work closely with all members of the MDT in our NHS and Private Practice.
Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for a dependable and highly adaptable individual who is able to work independently and has the ability to fit in quickly as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty. In addition, the post holder will be required to liaise with their peers across the Trust, the divisional management team and appropriate corporate directorates and teams. The post holder will be expected to liaise with colleagues external to the Trust and national networks as appropriate to the specialty.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
2.1 To sustain a high-quality specialist service for the patient, from diagnosis through all stages of the disease and actively provide optimum liaison and continuity of care.
2.2 To use advanced clinical judgement to plan, implement and evaluate care for patients throughout their cancer pathway
2.3 In collaboration with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists, to formulate and/or revise relevant policies and to regularly review this following change/implementation. To work within the procedures and policies of the Trust.
2.4 In conjunction with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists, to develop assessment tools that will ensure an appropriate level of nursing intervention so that patients with complex needs are referred to the appropriate specialist/s.
2.5 To manage an agreed caseload, using in depth knowledge of the patient / client group and acting as the key worker where appropriate.
2.6 To initiate, run and evaluate appropriate group support in conjunction with other relevant professional disciplines.

Essential criteria

3. Qualification in oncology or speciality Diploma or Degree level study Recognised teaching qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
4. Experience in intravenous drug administration
5. Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology (5+ years)
6. Experience in at least one treatment modality (chemotherapy, surgery or radiotherapy)
Desirable criteria
7. Chemotherapy experience
8. CNS experience
9. Experience in Clinical Management
10. Evidence of relevant teaching experience

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
