Overview:

CaBan is an innovative ITE partnership comprising four strong and equal partners: a wide variety of Lead and Network schools; Bangor University (BU); GwE; and CIEREI. Each has a key role and all share, with a passion, the vision of enhancing the life chances of children and young people across North Wales and the wider world, through the development of world class teachers to work in our education system.
The School of Education is renowned for its both Welsh-medium and English medium provision, whereby undergraduate students are able to study for their degrees through the medium of Welsh or English. Research submitted by Bangor University’s School of Education contributes to the Research Excellence Framework across a number of Units of Assessment. Research in the School of Education is conducted within the CIEREI Education Institute which is a partnership between Bangor University and GwE (the regional school improvement agency for North Wales). The aim of CIEREI’s research is to drive forward the mission of research-informed education in Wales.
Purpose of the Job
The role holder will join the ITE team in the School of Education. They will support delivery of core curriculum as well as delivering future developments and innovations to the programme, including advances in teaching and research excellence within education. The purpose of the job includes:
1. To provide quality, engaging teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and develop teaching materials or methodologies, for example course design or assessment and being module coordinator or contribute to module co-ordination.
2. To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including supervision of projects.
3. To strengthen the existing links between our research activity and the local community and within our HEI-schools partnership.
4. To engage with Welsh Government and other organisations on issues relating to Education.
5. Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.
6. Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting under graduate and postgraduate student experience, contributing to community engagement).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
7. Grade 7 Lecturer Teaching duties will include:
8. Establishing a record of teaching excellence at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
9. Planning, preparing and delivering lectures and tutorials at undergraduate and postgraduate level, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.
10. Delivery of quality modules that attract, engage and retain students, including designing, developing and delivering of a range of teaching materials for study at various levels.
11. Contributing to the teaching and assessment of the School’s portfolio of modules and programmes at various levels according to the needs of the School.
12. Motivating students to proactive engagement in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work within agreed time constraints.
13. Keeping abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments.
14. Ensuring that all students are provided with a supportive learning environment and provide advice and guidance to individual students as their personal tutor.
15. Participating in Quality Enhancement procedures.
16. Supervise students during School Experience, integrating theory and practice.
17. Take a full role in the assessment of students, both academically and against the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership.
18. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
19. Contribute to the development of new programmes and undertaking role of module coordinator or contributing to module co-ordination.
20. Completion of a PhD or EdD in a teaching fellowship role relevant subject area within a specified time period.
Grade 8 Lecturer Teaching duties will include, in addition to the above:
21. Initiating and taking forward the development of new programmes that will appeal to a wider market.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Grade 7 Lecturer Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:
22. Participating in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School (e.g. School and University Open Days).
23. To contribute to the promotion and external profile of the School.
24. Contribute to the School's management, and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g. organisation of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures (if module co-ordinator).
25. Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.
26. Maintaining accurate records and contributing to the working of the committee structures of the School and College.
27. Undertake an active role in mentoring less experienced members of staff within the College/School.
28. Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting under graduate and postgraduate student experience, contributing to community engagement).
29. The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

31. Ensure continued development of personal knowledge and skills to ensure that teaching reflects current best practice.
32. The post holder is also required to comply with all applicable health and safety policies, procedures and risk assessments.

Qualifications/Training
Essential for appointment at grade 7
38. Undergraduate degree.
39. Willingness to work towards PhD or EdD in a relevant subject area.
40. Qualified Teacher Status.
Essential for appointment at grade 8 (in addition to the above)
41. Working towards PhD or EdD in a relevant subject area.
42. Minimum of 3 years substantial teaching experience for conversion to HEA Fellowship within 3 years of appointment) or Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE) or equivalent OR Recognised by the HEA as a Fellow / Recognised by Advance HE as a Fellow against Descriptor 2 of the UKPSF.
Experience/Knowledge
