Year 7 Teacher – April 2025 Start
Competitive Salary | Outstanding School | SEMH Specialist | London-based
Freshsteps Independent School is looking for a passionate and experienced Year 7 Teacher to join our vibrant, nurturing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine impact in a highly supportive and well-resourced setting. The position is available for an immediate start.
About Us:
Freshsteps is an OFSTED-rated Outstanding independent alternative provision, catering for pupils aged 5–16 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. We pride ourselves on offering a structured, yet flexible and compassionate learning environment that helps pupils thrive.
We’ve recently expanded to include a sixth form hub, a new gym, sports arena, library, and an indoor therapeutic soft-play structure. Our curriculum is rich and diverse, offering pupils access to unique opportunities such as swimming, horse-riding, cooking, hair and beauty.
The Role:
You will teach one of our two Year 7 classes, which form part of a transitional phase between primary and secondary learning. Each class has a maximum of 6 pupils, supported by at least one classroom assistant. Pupils remain with the same teacher for core subjects—English, Maths, Science, and some Humanities—to build trust and consistency. PE, DT, and other subjects are delivered by specialists.
This is an ideal role for a confident, creative teacher with strong KS2 or nurture group experience, who thrives in smaller, more personalised classroom environments.
What We’re Looking For:
* A qualified teacher with experience working with SEMH/SEN pupils
* Strong subject knowledge in English, Maths, Science, and Humanities
* Skilled in managing behaviour and de-escalating challenging situations
* Creative and engaging teaching style with excellent differentiation
* Confident planning and delivering hands-on, practical lessons
* A genuine team player with enthusiasm, resilience and a big personality
* Strong understanding of EHCPs and targeted interventions
* Committed to high standards, inclusion and every child’s success
What We Offer:
* Competitive salary (based on experience)
* Very small class sizes (max 8) and high levels of classroom support
* A supportive, close-knit team and collaborative working culture
* Well-resourced classrooms and modern facilities
* Access to a range of CPD and training opportunities
* Clear opportunities for career progression
* A school that values staff wellbeing and work-life balance
