LHCH are looking to recruit two highly skilled and enthusiastic Band 6 Diagnostic Radiographers to join our General X-ray team. Our Radiographers participate in a rotation of shifts which include mobiles, orthopaedic theatres, pacing theatres, weekend shifts and night shifts. When in the department, our Radiographers will examine a variety of patients such as orthopaedic clinic outpatients, G.P patients, and cardiac & thoracic outpatients.
The successful candidates will have post-graduate experience within an X-ray department which will aid them in completing a band 6 development plan upon employment at LHCH. This development plan will aid growing Radiographer confidence in leadership, mentoring, managing daily workflow, and data quality.
Responsibilities
1. To be responsible for the operational delivery of a high quality, safe, and efficient X-ray service.
2. To provide supervision and training for junior Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, Radiographic helpers, and Student Radiographers.
3. To consistently demonstrate Trust values and behaviours.
4. Performance of clinical radiographic duties as delegated by the lead radiographer for the modality.
5. To participate in multi-disciplinary team working.
6. To practice within the standards of the Health Professions Council.
7. To ensure effective communication with patients, carers, and all healthcare professionals about all aspects of patient care.
8. To maintain accurate documentation pertinent to the examination.
9. To assist in the training and supervision of radiographer helpers, assistant practitioners, entry grade, and senior radiographer practitioners.
10. To maintain a close liaison with the lead radiographer for each of the modalities, to organise and supervise workflow in the area.
11. Competent knowledge of anatomy.
12. Competent in Intermediate life support (BLS).
13. Assist in safe patient transfer.
14. To ensure previous imaging is available and to ensure all images are discharged to the appropriate place post-examination.
15. Ensure all patients are positively identified prior to examination.
16. Consistently adhere to local rules and support others to do the same.
17. Have a thorough knowledge of X-ray imaging and safety.
18. To use patient monitoring systems and know how to deal with emergency situations.
19. Authorise X-ray referrals in line with justified protocols.
20. Perform quality assurance (QA) tests on equipment as required.
Managerial/Leadership
1. To disseminate information from training sessions as required.
2. Participate and contribute to the staff development programme and educational activities.
3. To act as mentor to junior staff.
4. To participate in departmental appraisal system and appraise junior staff.
5. Be responsible for the completion of actions identified by data quality reports & audits.
6. Responsible for ensuring equipment QA electronic record is up to date.
7. Management of referrals through the CRIS system.
8. Be able to hold difficult conversations with other staff members.
9. Completing induction programmes with new staff.
10. Assist the X-ray Principal Radiographer in completing daily matron audits in the department.
11. Deputise for the X-ray Principal Radiographer at meetings.
Organisation
1. Ensure professional and honest time management of shifts.
2. Responsible for monitoring own roster and having knowledge of upcoming shifts.
3. Responsible for agreeing cover for shifts which you cannot complete.
4. Ensure that time/owing is taken on a shift for the modality of which it was accrued.
5. Responsible for own management of annual leave planning.
6. Day to day organisation of staff duties i.e. workloads and lunch breaks.
