Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Voice and Head and Neck

Interested in specialising in ENT? We have an exciting opportunity for a Speech & Language Therapist who would like to continue to develop specialist skills in Voice & Head and Neck (H&N) Cancer.
You will provide out-patient assessment & management for patients with voice disorders at both Scunthorpe General & Diana Princess of Wales Hospitals, working closely with colleagues within the ENT service. There will be opportunities for continuing professional development, training & pathway review, including developing links with highly specialist colleagues across the wider Humber Health Partnership Group.
Supported by highly specialist SLT colleagues working in H&N Cancer & the wider MDT, you will have opportunities to extend & develop your dysphagia & communication skills & undertake training in laryngectomy surgical voice restoration management. You will work closely with colleagues at the tertiary centre at Castle Hill Hospital, Hull which brings further opportunities for joint working, peer supervision & learning. As a Macmillan professional, you will also be able to access education & resources through Macmillan Cancer Support.
The post holder will be an integral member of the multidisciplinary Macmillan Living with a Beyond Cancer clinic held in Scunthorpe alongside nurse specialists & a specialist dietitian. As an autonomous dysphagia practitioner, you will have access to the weekly SLT led Videofluoroscopy clinic also located in Scunthorpe General Hospital.
Main duties of the job
You will also have opportunities to maintain your acute in-patient skills with planned-in ward cover to support the wider team & service delivery.
We offer regular supervision, joint working, training & CPD opportunities to further develop your clinical skills. Alongside colleagues in the team, you will provide clinical leadership to more junior SLT's & support student placements.
The postholder is to both provide & support a high standard of care within Speech & Language Therapy, undertaking all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. To be responsible for providing a specialist service comprising assessment, management & treatment for adults with disorders of communication & swallowing (dysphagia) dependent on specific role.
To manage a defined caseload of patients using advanced evidence based/patient centred principles to assess, plan, implement & evaluate interventions, including discharge planning & facilitation.
The applicant will need to have access to transport & the ability to safely transport themself & equipment around the required geographical area during the course of their working day.
Candidates with less experience may be considered for a Band 5- Band 6 development role.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
* HCPC Registered
* Registered member of RCSLT
* Wide range of CPD activities, esp. related to specialist area
* Postgraduate qualification or training in Dysphagia
* Clinical Supervisor training
Experience & Abilities
* Minimum two years post graduate experience with adult caseload
* Experience as an autonomous dysphagia therapist
* Able to manage own caseload/s
* Experience of teaching other staff
* Experience of working in the specialist area
* Experience of working in acute/ community setting with a multi agency team
* Experience of several specialist areas of work
* Experience of managing staff and other resources
* Experience of presentations to a range of audiences
* Clinical education of students, assistants or other staff
* Involvement in research
* Use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems
Personal Qualities
* Access to transport and the ability to travel within the required geographical area
