Lead Systems Engineer (Vehicle & Equipment) Permanent Norfolk £Competetive Purpose The lead system engineer is an integral member of the Engineering Team. The lead system engineer will be overlooking a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the successful system of products into existing customer vehicles & equipment. The lead system engineer will have a focus towards demonstrating the performance advantages to customers or potential customers and will drive a highly skilled team to deliver projects on time and within budget. They will support the CTO and VP of Engineering to deliver the businesses engineering requirements. Duties Develop & lead a highly skilled team of engineers to achieve product system of product into customer systems, ensuring safety and compliance are maintained throughout. Assist with programme and project management plans for internal and customer facing projects Take responsibility for the technical specifications, requirements and delivery of vehicle and system development for projects Take ownership of programme and project engineering delivery, on time, to quality and to cost. Recruit, mentor, and coach a team of system engineers, focusing on professional development and retainment of high performing employees. Ensure compliance with all UK and international laws and regulatory requirements Build and maintain excellent relations with key customers, prospects, suppliers, and other external stakeholders Drive Continuous Improvements throughout the business Travel internationally where required to support customer projects and system of systems Ensuring that the system team are working in accordance with business processes, policies, and procedures. Improving processes so that team are working efficient and effective Accountabilities Accountable for multiple budgets of approximately £500k-£1m (with both manhours and material) Direct line management for the system team Customer system project delivery on time, to cost and to quality. Experience Demonstratable experience of delivery on time, to cost and to quality. Proven experience of people management with direct line management and matrix operated structure A strong track record of driving technical decisions, fast-paced development, and customer satisfaction goals within a business. Has prior experience of off-road mobile vehicle system and working in a multi-disciplinary environment (or drive train/electric motors experience) Can show deep understanding of CAN protocol, demonstrating prior experience of working on systems with CAN and debugging of said systems. (Or evidence of leading a team to achieve this within a business) Previous experience of system wiring system to relevant standards and engineering best practices, appreciation for EMC compliance. Strong mechanical background with appreciation for safety and compliance. Preferable experience working on hybrid vehicles and conversion of systems from Petrol/Diesel to Electric. Experience in managing multiple live projects of varying complexity at a given time. Must have experience as part of a leadership team. Skills/Abilities/Knowledge/Qualities Good knowledge of electric drive systems, harness development, CAN control and Battery Management Systems Change management, influencing and negotiation. Planning, organisation, and time management skills Positive about change and continuous improvement Excellent Attention to detail and making sure all tasks are finished. Evidence based, analytical decision making and problem solving. Ability to drive with a full driving licence and own vehicle insured for business use. Ability to work overseas if appropriate.
