Role Summary
The Head of Risk will develop and lead the company’s global risk management strategy, ensuring effective identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring of risks. This role focuses on enterprise risk management (ERM), encompassing operational, financial, strategic, and emerging risks. The position works closely with compliance leadership and the compliance operations team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement a global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, ensuring risks are systematically identified, assessed, and mitigated.
2. Define the company’s risk appetite and tolerance in collaboration with executive leadership and the Board.
3. Continuously enhance risk management policies and methodologies to address changes in the fintech and payments industry.
4. Lead risk identification and mitigation strategies across the business, including:
5. Operational risks: Technology failures, fraud, vendor risks.
6. Strategic risks: Market expansion, competitive threats, geopolitical concerns.
7. Emerging risks: Cybersecurity, ESG risks, and disruptive industry trends.
8. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies.
9. Work with compliance leadership to align on regulatory and financial crime-related risks.
10. Support fraud prevention and transaction monitoring efforts, ensuring alignment with compliance processes.
11. Partner with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) to assess and mitigate risks related to data privacy, cybersecurity, and operational resilience.
12. Develop and maintain Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and dashboards for real-time risk visibility.
13. Deliver risk reports to senior leadership and the Board, ensuring material risks are escalated.
14. Monitor global trends to identify potential threats and opportunities.
15. Oversee operational risk management, including cybersecurity, fraud prevention, and third-party/vendor risk.
16. Lead the development and testing of Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) frameworks.
17. Work with Operations and Technology teams to strengthen risk controls.
18. Build and lead a high-performing global risk team, fostering a culture of proactive risk management.
19. Provide mentorship and training to enhance the team’s expertise in risk management.
20. Promote risk awareness and accountability across the organization.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
* Advanced degrees (e.g., MBA) or professional certifications (e.g., PRM, FRM, CRISC) are highly desirable.
Experience:
* 10+ years of experience in risk management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, ideally in fintech, payments, or financial services.
* Proven track record of implementing Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks.
* Strong expertise in operational, financial, and strategic risk management, including cybersecurity and emerging risks.
Skills:
* Strategic thinker with the ability to balance business priorities and risk considerations.
* Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills with a collaborative mindset.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with expertise in risk quantification and mitigation.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex risk issues to executive leadership and Boards.
Preferred Attributes
* Experience in global payments, cross-border transactions, or mobile-first financial services.
* Expertise in fraud prevention, cybersecurity, and vendor/third-party risk management.
* Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., PSD2, operational resilience requirements).
