Since 2010, Balfour Beatty Living Places and Southampton City Council have partnered in an award-winning Highways Service Partnership. This collaboration covers comprehensive services: from highways and traffic management to CCTV monitoring, toll management, and bus lane enforcement.
The Health & Safety Advisor will drive Safety, Health and Environmental compliance across the Southampton project and provide high quality specialist support and advice directly to line management on how they should control HSES risks.
What you'll be doing
* Fully understand and support delivery of UK HS&W Strategy
* Contribute to the implementation, delivery and review of the BU Zero Harm
Action Plan at business and/or project level.
* Support the delivery of the HS&W Key Performance Indicators at project &
business level.
* Support work winning teams with quality & innovative HS&W responses for
bids, proposals and PQQs.
* Provide expert support to investigate accidents, incidents and near miss events
in accordance with Balfour Beatty Group Standards and company
requirements.
* In conjunction with operational management complete a local and bespoke
risk-based Service Level Agreement with each project which is kept under
quarterly review.
* Undertake regular site inspections as per project risk matrix.
* Produce formal reports using the Project Portal to record planned & unplanned
* HS&W inspections which review project performance against the UK HS&W
* Regulatory Framework & UK Business Management System requirements.
* Undertake regular checks on Health and Safety Risk Management ensuring
that appropriate risks and opportunities have been identified and are being
implemented
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
* Relevant H&S Diploma, NVQ or Degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification).
* May consider candidates with a certificate/qualification currently working
towards one of these qualifications with relevant on-site experience.
* To have or be working toward Chartered Membership of IOSH.
* Ability to influence and promote a positive HS&E culture.
* Competence in incident investigation.
* Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulatory Framework.
* Ability to prepare formal written reports on HS&E topics.
* Ability to undertake project planning and project management.
* Demonstrates commitment to continual learning to refine, further develop and
apply expertise to add distinctive value to customers and Balfour Beatty.
* Broad experience of complex construction and civils project (or experience from
an equivalent sector).
* Ability to engage and converse at all levels.
