The successful candidate will work with the multidisciplinary team on the elective surgery ward assisting the ward staff in the day-to-day work of the department. The role requires empathy, good communication, and the ability to work under pressure.
* Help admit patients reviewing pre-assessments and completing various pathways.
* Direct patients to various other departments for any investigations required prior to consultation.
* Take patients to theatre.
* Provide pre-and post-op care for patients in a professional, respectful, confident manner.
* Ensure all patients are ready for theatre, concentrating on patients first on the list.
* Recording of pregnancy tests.
* Daily cleaning schedule including consulting rooms/oxygen and suction checks.
* Ordering of linen.
* Tidying and preparation of the examination rooms and ward area.
* Maintain a clean environment with associated cleaning duties.
* Provide patient care following procedures in theatre, including patient observations.
* Recognise and report to the appropriate person the patient’s condition which may require intervention of others.
* Provide diet and fluids to patients when appropriate to do so.
* Catheter care, including irrigation.
* Assist patients getting up from trolleys safely to get dressed.
* Remove linen and clean trolleys following discharge of patients.
* Removal of cannulas when safe to do so.
* Deal with telephone calls in a pleasant and courteous manner.
* Awareness of public user involvement in the service we provide.
* Prepare for the next day's theatre lists.
* Set up admission areas in the ward for the next day.

* Dispose of rubbish and clinical waste in accordance with the appropriate policies.
* Report faulty equipment to the estates department.
* Undertake all such reasonable other duties as may be required as part of the role.
