Job Title: Design Engineer
Red - Specialist Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our client, a leading shipbuilding company based in Inverclyde. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for creating detailed 2D design layouts and arrangements, taking into consideration client requirements and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Liaise with electrical, mechanical, and structural teams to manage technical queries and ensure seamless collaboration.
* Work closely with customers and subcontractors to address design-related issues and concerns, providing exceptional customer service.
* Review and modify designs based on feedback from internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with company goals.
* Conduct on-site vessel reviews to support drawing creation and Production teams, ensuring efficient and effective project delivery.
* Requisition materials from Bills of Materials and collaborate with the Procurement team to source alternative materials when necessary.
* Review 3D models and consult with the European Design Team as required, ensuring designs meet regulatory class requirements.
* Complete drawings efficiently and ensure all outputs are aligned with Planning and Production schedules, meeting deadlines and quality standards.
* Ensure designs adhere to all health and safety guidelines appropriate to the role, prioritizing employee well-being and safety.
Requirements:
* Proficient use of AutoCAD (or similar design software) and Microsoft Office.
* Minimum of 4 years drawing office or detail design experience, preferably within the commercial shipbuilding industry.
* A good understanding of ship outfitting requirements and UK passenger ship regulations.
* HNC/HND/relevant time-served apprenticeship preferred.
* HVAC and structural knowledge would be preferred, but not essential.
* Production experience would also be preferred, but not essential.
