Decontamination & Domestic Services Manager
Are you an experienced Healthcare Decontamination manager looking to develop your career at senior level in the North East?
The opportunity has arisen to join Synchronicity Care Limited (SCL) as the Decontamination & Domestic Services Manager. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of effective, efficient and compliant decontamination and domestic services across all County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust sites.
The successful candidate will support the Director of Facilities to provide direct leadership and support for all decontamination and domestic services across CDDFT, ensuring there are robust systems and processes in place to improve patient safety and deliver the required outcomes.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have a proven track record within Healthcare Decontamination services management or in a related clinical or medical services role, with a broad depth of relevant transferable experience and will be able to apply their knowledge effectively to provide professional, scientific, technical and overall management of decontamination and domestic services activities.
Job Responsibilities
Main duties of the role:
1. Responsible for providing visible leadership in coordinating the effective management of decontamination of reusable medical devices, and high-quality professional cleaning services, delivered by various departments across CDDFT.
2. Accountable for the operational performance of all staff engaged in the delivery of specialised decontamination and domestic services, and for the standards and quality of the services and all products provided by those services.
3. Accountable for the effective management of the organisational budget for all decontamination and domestic services, within the prescribed budgetary limits, ensuring compliance with the Trust's Standing Financial Instructions.
4. Working with the Director of Facilities to identify and support the development of strategies and processes relating to decontamination and domestic services, that enable the service delivery teams to optimize performance and strategic growth, whilst delivering robust and compliant activities, and ensuring a customer-centered approach.
5. Understand and support staff in the full range of decontamination and domestic duties, taking responsibility for providing a safe working environment which is conducive to operational requirements and the wellbeing of staff, and creates a climate which both encourages teamwork and maximises individual potential.
6. Responsible for overseeing and developing all processes, procedures and work instructions relating to the specialised decontamination & domestic services, including business continuity and contingency planning, in conjunction with the service managers, ensuring they are embedded into all aspects of the designated services on all sites, and are regularly reviewed.
7. Adopt a strategic approach to the continued development of specialised decontamination and domestic services, embracing quality improvement processes and the management of any changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.
8. Manage the development and implementation of effective internal performance monitoring processes, to ensure continual review and to identify and address shortcomings, e.g. supervisory audits, PLACE lite audits, training and competency checks etc.
Person Specification
Special Skills & Knowledge
* Specialist knowledge across the full range of working decontamination procedures and practices
* High level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from decontamination failure
* Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, national and international standards, professional and other guidelines, including MDA/MHRA safety documents, National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021, Health Technical Memoranda, European Norms and EC Directives (e.g. M H&S at Work etc.)
* Extensive knowledge of the techniques employed to measure the performance and safety of services
* Thorough understanding of current decontamination and domestic services practices and processes
* Understanding of NHS systems and factors impacting on the NHS
* Understands the fundamentals of data quality, data protection and confidential use of patient information
* Knowledge of data protection.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety and PPE.
* Evidence of using technical equipment.
Experience
* Significant experience of managing Sterile Services or equivalent sector management
* Previous employment and experience in a relevant discipline in a healthcare setting
* Track record of achieving high service standards and delivering objectives
* Cost control and budgetary management
* Skilled in effective business planning to meet future national and local strategic requirements
* Understanding and experience of recognised quality management systems
* Experience of successfully leading and developing teams
* Previous Customer Care Experience
* Experience with working closely with senior managerial, consultant, nursing, medical and all other Trust, professional and other national organisations
* Previous Sterile Services or NHS experience.
Qualifications
* Nationally recognised decontamination qualification
* Successful completion of operational management training courses in decontamination, including SSD Supervisors/ Managers, and/or Management of flexible endoscope decontamination (to NHS guidance)
* Relevant knowledge, skills and management experience to degree level
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Qualified as authorised User (Decontamination) Equipment Management as defined in NHS Guidance
* Full membership of Institute of Decontamination Sciences
* IDSc National Certificate
