The General Manager, Major Projects, is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and successful delivery of large-scale projects within the organisation. This role requires strong leadership, strategic vision, and operational expertise to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The General Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage key stakeholder relationships, and drive continuous improvement in project management processes. To operate as a member of the Private Networks senior leadership team, building strong working relationships with your peers and driving positive change across the business.
Principal Accountabilities:
* Ensure the Major Projects Business operates at the highest standards of Health & Safety.
* Drive Major Projects Business growth and profitability - convert orders into revenue to meet financial targets maximising gross margin and profitability.
* Ensure customer satisfaction through excellent delivery throughout the contractual chain.
* Ensure compliance with Ipsum processes and driving of continuous improvement.
* Drive innovation and efficiency by identifying opportunities to optimize processes and technologies.
* Develop and implement strategic plans for major projects, aligning with organizational goals and objectives.
* Oversee project lifecycles, including scope definition, resource allocation, budgeting, risk management, and timeline adherence.
* Lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
* Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and senior leadership.
* Prepare and present detailed reports on project progress, financials, and outcomes to executive leadership.
* Monitor project performance metrics, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
* Manage project budgets, forecast financial needs, and manage resources effectively to ensure cost-effective resource utilisation.
* Ensure lessons learnt & best practices are embedded in the major projects delivery process and culture. This is key to raise competitiveness and profitability.
* Take ownership of working capital management and cash collection to ensure strong cashflow.
* Lead, Develop and Motivate the Major Projects Team to ensure talent retention, personal development and high level of engagement.
* Be recognised as an active ambassador of Ipsum.
About You
Desirable Qualifications [& Professional Membership(s)]:
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree or PMP certification preferred).
* 5-10 years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing large-scale or complex projects.
* Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget in a fast-paced environment.
* Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on risk mitigation and decision-making.
* Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or similar tools).
* Knowledge of Power industry-specific regulations, standards, or technologies is an asset.
* Ability to travel as required to project sites or stakeholder meetings.
* Knowledge and experience of driving H&S culture, compliance and safe systems of work.
* Knowledge and experience of financial forecasting and reporting.
* Experience of leading, managing and developing a team of people.
