Tailored Recruitment Consultancy are working with a leading business in Leeds to recruit and experienced HGV Garage workshop Manager. to oversee and manage the daily operations of the repair and maintenance of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs). The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of skilled HGV mechanics, ensuring a high standard of service and safety, and maintaining smooth, efficient workshop operations. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership abilities, and strong organisational skills. Key Responsibilities Workshop Management • Oversee day-to-day operations of the garage, ensuring efficiency, safety, and adherence to company policies. • Plan and schedule maintenance, repairs, inspections and Mot prep for a fleet of HGVs, ensuring all work is completed on time. • Allocate tasks and workload effectively to a team of HGV mechanics, ensuring appropriate skill sets and resources are used. • Monitor and track progress of ongoing projects to ensure timely completion. • Help out when needed on workshop floor Team Leadership • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of HGV mechanics to maintain high performance, morale, and safety standards. • Conduct regular team meetings, training, and performance evaluations to foster a culture of continuous improvement. • Ensure all mechanics have access to necessary tools, parts, and training to perform their tasks effectively. • Handle staffing, performance, and disciplinary issues in line with company policy. Quality Control & Compliance: • Ensure all work performed meets safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. • Implement and enforce maintenance procedures, diagnostic processes, and repair standards to ensure quality. • Oversee the inspection of vehicles to identify and resolve faults, ensuring compliance with roadworthiness regulations. • Maintain accurate records of repairs, services, inspections, and parts used Inventory & Resource Management • Oversee the management of workshop tools, equipment, and spare parts inventory. • Ensure all tools and machinery are properly maintained and serviced. • Monitor and control costs related to workshop operations, including parts, supplies, and labour. Health and Safety • Implement and maintain strict health and safety policies within the workshop environment, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. • Perform risk assessments and take appropriate action to address any potential hazards. • Ensure all team members adhere to safety protocols, use PPE, and maintain a clean and safe working environment. Customer Service • Liaise with drivers and transport manager to understand their requirements and ensure all HGVs are serviced to meet operational needs. • Provide regular updates to transport manager on the progress of vehicle repairs and maintenance. • Address concerns or complaints regarding repairs or vehicle performance and resolve issues promptly. Reporting and Administration • Prepare and submit regular reports on workshop performance, vehicle downtime, repairs completed, and budget tracking. • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, ensuring the database is up to date. Qualifications and Requirements Education: • NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent qualifications. • Management qualifications (e.g., C&G Level 4, ILM) preferred. Experience: • Proven experience (3 years) in a managerial or supervisory role within a garage or workshop environment in an HGV setting. • Extensive experience as a qualified HGV mechanic, with a deep understanding of HGV systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures. Skills Experience managing teams, budgets, and operational workflows. • Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills. • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities. • In-depth knowledge of HGV systems, repair techniques, and industry standards. • Solid understanding of health and safety regulations in a workshop environment. • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Other Proficient in workshop management software and general computer skills. • Full, valid driving license (HGV preferred). • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, if required
