As part of our continuedgrowth, we are looking for a SEN Food Technology Teacher to joinour team at Oakham Shires School.
Aboutthe role
The successful candidate willhave experience of closing the gaps for disadvantaged and SENDpupils would be beneficial as you would be supporting autisticteenagers that have struggled throughout their school journey toachieve their academic and life goals.
You willtake a creative approach to teaching students according to theireducational needs, reviewing and adapting the curriculum in orderto ensure a highly personalised, challenging, engaging andappropriate Food Technology curriculum is being delivered to allstudents in a way that maximises students' achievement and abilityto develop, and work closely with the SLT and colleagues toensure the school is compliant with statutoryregulations.
Our class groups are small allowingyou to focus on each pupil’s needs; all of our pupils are treatedas an individual; one size does not fit all and we recognise thatin our approach to learning by adapting our teaching to meetindividual needs. We are looking for staff with a knowledgeand understanding of autism and developmental trauma, who can applythat knowledge in all of their dealings and interactions with theyoung people we support. We use an “in their own time andspace” philosophy to support our pupils to navigate theirlives. We focus on understanding behaviour for communicationand use this to help support their social and emotionaldevelopment. We have a strong safeguarding culture, wherepupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisionsas possible.
We need teachers who have a passionfor working with pupils, have a compassionate, caring manner and amature, non-judgemental approach to life. You will be a clearcommunicator and resilient.
At OakhamShires, we have a maximum of 5 pupils per class with adult supporttherefore reducing paperwork and we allocate 7¿ hours per week ofnon-contact time for training, PPA, meetings, etc. Staff enjoya cooked lunch with pupils each day and time is set aside to focuson staff wellbeing.

About theschool
Oakham Shires School is anIndependent Special School for 11-18 year olds who are Autistic andhave associated diagnosis and special education needs. Theschool delivers a specialist curriculum for pupils who havestruggled to cope in a mainstream or larger SEN educational settingand are, as a result, working below age expected stage. Pupilsare taught in small class groups of 4 -5 with a high staff to pupilratio. Pupils are supported to achieve their Outcomes withintheir Education Health Care Plan, develop life skills and achieveaccreditations in Maths, English and Science.
