We have exciting opportunities to join our Facilities department at Furness General Hospital as a Domestic Assistant to support the Trust in delivering a clean and safe environment.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in clinical, public, and external areas using appropriate cleaning methods.
2. Identify areas to be cleaned and plan a cleaning program with relevant staff, ensuring safety is not compromised.
3. Operate cleaning equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions, reporting any faults to the supervisor.
4. Undertake deep cleaning and isolation cleans following national and local guidelines.
5. Carry out spot cleaning to address spillages and incidents promptly, with support from clinical staff as needed.
6. Adhere to all relevant COSHH assessments and Safety Data sheets when using and disposing of cleaning chemicals.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Good literacy and numeracy skills.
* Possess or be willing to work towards a BIC's Qualification or equivalent NVQ Level 2.
* Knowledge of Health and Safety and COSHH.
Experience
* Previous cleaning experience.
* Ability to work independently or as part of a team without direct supervision.
* Knowledge of cleaning in a healthcare establishment and understanding of cross-contamination risks.
Skills, Ability, and Knowledge
* Effective communication skills.
* Ability to plan and manage your own workload.
* Understanding of written and spoken instructions.
* Capability to use heavy equipment and handle hazardous cleaning chemicals safely.
* Knowledge of infection control in cleaning environments.
* Ability to interact with a diverse range of people.
Personal Qualities
* Reliable and presentable with a polite and friendly manner.
* Adaptable and flexible to changing service needs.
* Ability to rectify cleaning standards promptly.
* Willingness to travel as required.
