To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in providing a high standard of care for patients and their families under the care of the Hospice. Main duties and responsibilities Professional 1. To develop excellent communications with the patient and their family, passing on all relevant information to a qualified nurse. 2. To inform a qualified nurse of any change in the patients condition. 3. To respect the privacy and dignity of the patient at all times and keep strict confidentiality. 4. To carry out personal cares for the patient under the direction of a qualified nurse. 5. To maintain accurate records of care under the supervision of qualified staff. 6. When required to act as a patients escort on external visits. 7. To undertake light domestic and catering duties. 8. To participate in full rotation across all shifts including nights, weekends and bank holidays. Managerial 1. To follow Hospice procedures when giving or receiving telephone messages. 2.To follow Hospice procedures in the care and custody of patients valuables and property. 3. To follow the Hospice procedures on the reporting of all accidents, incidents, hazards or complaints. 4. To exercise care and economy in the use of property and equipment. 5. To follow Hospice protocols and procedures in relation to annual leave, sickness and absence. 6. To maintain a caring and mutually supportive working environment for all members of staff and volunteers, being sensitive to the emotional needs of colleagues and giving appropriate support to them. Education 1. To undertake appropriate training by attending relevant courses or study days as required. 2. To assist with the orientation of new staff members and others on placement within the Hospice. 3. Is prepared to work towards achieving the Care Certificate. Other 1. Attend all mandatory training or courses. 2. Attend any training or development required by the Hospice. 3. Read, understand and follow all Hospice policies and procedures. 4. Participate in the Annual Performance Review. 5. Positively promote, support and represent the Hospice especially within the community, and to maintain the philosophy, ethos and ambience. 6. Comply with and promote the Hospices Equality, Diversity, Inclusion & Harassment policy. 7. Live and work in line with the Hospices vision, mission and values. 8. Be aware of personal responsibilities and discharge these as defined by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974. 9. Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters relating to the Hospice, its business, patients, staff and ethos. 10. Undertake any other tasks, duties or responsibilities as requested by your Line Manager or other Senior Manager, including the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive.
