Overview
The V&V Engineer is based at one of our various locations around the UK, leading the V&V management activities across the signalling project portfolio. The role also has a multifunctional dimension leading the implementation and supporting the project and engineering teams with the V&V management throughout the project life cycle. These projects use the wide range of Alstom signalling technologies including the SMARTLOCK interlocking system, Modular Control Systems, VHLC and Electrologix systems and trackside modules including smart I/O. Our projects are multidiscipline, complex and are strategically important to our clients. Our engineering teams are supporting some of the most significant projects within the UK. The role will view the projects in a holistic manor to ensure the projects are completed safely, on time and with minimal re-works and will manage and undertake the required system engineering activities within the following areas:
1. Support as required the V&V Management Lead Engineer with the implementation of the V&V processes across the Alstom project portfolio and liaising with the UK process correspondent. The role also has a requirement to, where work is subcontracted, ensure system V&V are managed and controlled in line with the Alstom process.
2. The role is responsible for the delivery of V&V activities at project level and provides technical support and guidance to the signalling, telecoms and power teams. The V&V management engineer is responsible for the capture and manage of project V&V requirements within the approved Alstom tool set and is compliant with the Alstom process. As the V&V Management Engineer you will be responsible for ensuring that project and design staff are provided guidance on the V&V management processes and associated tools.
3. The role requires implementation of the organisation’s system engineering management processes with the project and design teams across multiple sites as required. This will involve supporting the project and design engineering teams with technical guidance, leadership and monitoring of the Alstom V&V tools set and processes.
4. Support the V&V Management Lead Engineer develop technical instructions to enable the projects V&V activities to be formally documented.
5. Mentor, coach and train non-project staff when required on the use of tools and process to support the development of formal V&V management within the UK environment.
Main responsibilities:
6. The V&V Engineer reports to the V&V Management Lead Engineer within the signalling engineering structure, the role will require work to be executed across the company’s project portfolio.
7. Training of staff on the Alstom V&V tool set and defines staff competence.
8. The V&V engineer is responsible to for the set up and definition of the project V&V management structure during the tender phase, update upon contract award and maintain the requirement management throughout the project life cycle.
9. To meet the key deliverables of the role the V&V Management Engineer shall be responsible for the following tasks:
10. Produce the project V&V plan.
11. Create and maintain the project in the approved V&V management tools.
12. Analyse the stakeholder needs and expectations to establish the requirements for a system.
13. Liaise with client at various levels and the system design authority to confirm system requirements.
14. Work with the requirement’s leader to assign requirements to correct subsystem and maintain traceability record.
15. Work with the Change Control and Configuration lead to ensure all changes are valid and traceable.
16. Ensure submitted entries are correctly populated and defined.
17. Setup plan and facilitate requirement’s coordination meetings particularly between subsystems and interfaces.
18. Verify that requirements and changes are clearly recorded with any supporting information documented/traceable.
19. Support the production of the verification and validation reports, including production of template reports.
20. Support discipline CRE’s to ensure V&V information is being recorded correctly, adequately defined, categorized.
21. Validate that issues are being actioned / progressed.
22. Provide project requirement’s management progress reports / KPI reports.
23. Provide V&V management training as required.
24. Support the Competence Manager with the execution of the internal competence management scheme.

29. Experience of applying RSSB, Network Rail standards or equivalent rail infrastructure organizations
Desirable:
Knowledge of GB Mainline, signalling design, installation, testing or safety assurance with knowledge of railway construction methods and materials used is desirable. Use of database software (such as DOORS/Reqtify).
