Charlton Athletic Football Club is an English professional association football club based in Charlton, south-east London. The club was founded on June 9th, 1905 and has a storied history, including winning the FA Cup in 1947 and returning to their Valley home in 1992. Our men's first team competes in League One, and our women's team competes in the Women’s Championship.
Role Description:
The purpose of this role is to take primary responsibility for the coaching and development of all young goalkeepers within our Schoolboy Program (U9-U16). The role will include working on a daily basis within the Academy, including the schoolboy programme as well as our full-time PDP programme.
Key Responsibilities:
* Development of goalkeepers from U9-U16, including monitoring and providing support to U18/21 GK’s on a regular basis.
* Monitoring of goalkeepers' performance during games and training.
* Liaise closely with Academy Team Coaches and Lead Phase Coaches regarding training, games, and progress.
* Plan, deliver and evaluate coaching sessions in line with the Academy’s GK coaching curriculum.
* Monitor goalkeeping coaching and promote good practice across all phases.
* Ensure all goalkeepers in the Academy have an Individual Development Plan that is consistently delivered, reviewed, and adapted.
* Work effectively with other departments to ensure the Academy operates in a multi-disciplinary environment.
* Assist with administrative tasks related to the role, including general organisation and recording of sessions.
* Complete all tasks related to the Coach Competency Framework, liaising closely with the Head of Coaching.
* Contribute to the scouting and recruiting process for all Schoolboy GK’s.
* Attend and contribute to meetings as directed by the Academy Director / Head of Coaching / Head of Academy Goalkeeping.
* Ensure goalkeepers spend sufficient time coached with outfield players.
* Attend at least five hours of FA in-service training per year.
* Attend FA Academy coaches’ EFAIF training at least once every three years.
* Undertake CPD organised by the Club.
Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Academy Director/Head of Coaching/Head of Academy Goalkeeping.
Education/Qualifications/Training:
* UEFA B
* UEFA B Goalkeepers Award
* FA Advanced Youth Award (desirable)
* FA Safeguarding Children
* EFAIF
Specific Experience:
* Experience of working in an Academy.
* Background in football as a player or coach is desirable.
* Knowledge of development and session planning.
* Knowledge of elite level requirements.
* IT literate with knowledge of Player Data collection systems.
Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:
* Competent and personable with good time management skills.
* Ability to work calmly under pressure.
* Ability to work well as a member of a team and as an individual.
* High degree of personal drive and motivation.

* This is a full-time role that includes work on weekends and evenings (negotiable).
