Due to the needs of the Shared Service, opportunities have arisen to recruit Benefits Officer posts in the Benefits team on a permanent basis. It is also expected that the post holder will assist with Council Tax administration matters.
Duties include:
* Administrative matters in relation to Universal Credit
* Processing of benefit claims in accordance with Housing Benefit regulations and Council Tax Support rules, ensuring claims are processed accurately and paid promptly.
* Administering correspondence relating to Council Tax billing, including registration, changes of occupation, discounts, and exemptions.
* Communicating with customers, their representatives, other organisations, and professional bodies, including services within the Council on matters concerning the assessment of entitlement to benefit.
* Checking and verifying all information given by customers and/or obtained from other sources, in accordance with the requirements of locally set standards of verification, ensuring that the gateway to benefit is secure by reducing the instances of fraud and error.
We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated applicants with a working knowledge of Benefits and Council Tax and an eye for detail. The work is challenging, and therefore the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines is essential.
Applications will be considered from applicants wishing to work less than full-time hours. Hybrid working is available.
