Job Introduction
The Executive Product Manager role sits within a strategically positioned team in Research & Development, dedicated to delivering next-generation digital services. This role is key to shaping the future of audience engagement by leveraging the BBC's cutting edge expertise in innovation and technology. Working closely with partners including startups industry leaders and BBC teams this role will develop pioneering projects that enhance audience experiences and unlock new commercial opportunities.
As a pivotal player on the BBC's "Value for All" strategy the Executive Product Manager will drive the development of groundbreaking digital services, ensuring the BBC remains at the forefront of the evolving digital landscape. You will focus on delivering high impact sustainable experiences that enforce our public service mission while identifying opportunities for commercial and audience growth.
This is a rare opportunity to work on the very start of a product, defining it from scratch, collaborating with partner's, establishing the product in the market and executing its successful growth. The role holder will lead the team through this dynamically changing journey.
The ideal candidate will bring strategic vision and an entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for early stage 0-1 product development.
Reporting to the Head of Product they will collaborate with a diverse stakeholders including BBC teams, start ups and some major tech companies to rapidly scale innovative solutions maximise impact and future proof the BBC's digital offerings.
Main Responsibilities
We're looking for an experienced Executive Product Manager with expertise in early-stage product development, digital innovation and strategic partnerships to join our newly formed team.
In this role, you'll identify key opportunities an develop product strategies that leverage market insights, data and audience research to create business cases and scalable products working collaboratively with our partners.
We need a resilient, self-starting leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You'll have a deep experience in product management, innovation processes and a well-established industry network. You'll inspire the team and confidently engage with senior stakeholders both within the BBC and externally.

Are you the right candidate
This role is for a seasoned professional with significant expertise in the essential areas listed.
• Proven track record of taking products from concept to MVP (minimum viable product) and then scaling through research, prototyping and iterative improvements, collaborating effectively with cross-functional (internal and external) teams to align objectives and deliver successful launches.
• Skilled in developing digital innovation strategies that align with business objectives, informed by market insights, audience research and competitor analysis, and translated into clear actionable roadmaps and value propositions.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing end to end innovation projects, ensuring alignment, efficiency, and measurable outcomes.
• Proven ability to establish and maintain strategic partnerships and collaborations
• Excellent communication skills with experience presenting complex concepts to senior stakeholders, creating compelling narratives and building consensus to drive strategic initiatives.
Essential
• Understanding and ability to apply industry knowledge, market awareness, audience research and analytical insights to product strategy and planning.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and distil research, usage data, and market insights
• Deep understanding of product management and digital innovation process's
• Ability to plan and forecast product budget and deliver within that budget.
• Thorough understanding of cutting-edge technologies and industry trends
• Entrepreneurial attitude and experience growing products from scratch
• Experience managing commercial and contractual relationships with third party suppliers and partners.
• Experience working with large organisations, start ups, venture backed team's and/or the media industry
• Deep knowledge of early-stage product delivery
• Strong track record of leading a team and an impactful product through the process of discovery through to scaling
• Experienced working at pace in a fast moving and changing environment
• Proven ability to manage and develop multidisciplinary teams, including analysts, commercial partners, data scientists, UX designers and engineers.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience engaging at all organisational levels in a variety of organisations
• Hands on experience with Product methodologies and tools.
Interview Process
Shortlisted candidates for this Senior Role will be required to attend a two-stage interview process.
The two stages will consist of:
• A values based Interview - This will consist of a short presentation (strictly no more than 10 minutes) followed by a blend of values-based questions (approximately 60 Mins). Candidates will be required to pre-prepare a presentation - a brief for this will be sent 7 days ahead of time
• A discipline focused Interview - This will consist of an interview focused on Product Management, Innovation, and market insights (approximately 60 Mins).
These are anticipated to take place late April 2025 (subject to change).
