Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Corby, NN18
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 (DOE)

The Company:
Our client is a leading provider of mechanical engineering services in the area, supplying, designing, and installing bespoke materials handling equipment and special purpose machinery. Established in the area, they have built a strong reputation for delivering quality service at competitive prices. Their team designs and fabricates a variety of products, including conveyor systems, piping, structural steel work, ducting, small machinery, and more. They pride themselves on turnkey solutions and maintain a high standard of craftsmanship and innovation. As a business, they are experiencing growth and a consistent large volume of incoming projects, and as such, they are looking to expand their design team to allow them to run additional projects simultaneously. They currently employ around 30 employees across the business, with 3 engineers in the design team. Last year they achieved a turnover of around £3-3.5 million, growing from £2.5-3 million of last year.
The Role:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be an integral part of the close-knit design team, working on a variety of projects from initial conception to installation. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Designing whole machinery as well as individual components
2. Offering a “cradle to grave” solution
3. Using SolidWorks and AutoCAD Lite
4. Producing both 3D and 2D drawings (with a large focus on 3D)
5. Attending site visits and consulting clients to understand project requirements
6. Creating detailed workshop drawings and overseeing the fabrication process
7. Managing multiple projects and ensuring timely delivery
8. Collaborating with clients and internal teams to plan installations
What We’re Looking For:
We seek candidates with:
1. Previous use of SolidWorks or a similar CAD package
2. A general understanding of engineering principles and the ability to problem solve
3. Experience within the food processing, conveyor systems, or sheet metal industry
4. Experience designing SPM and building prototypes
5. Strong project management skills and the ability to manage your own workload
6. Capable of working within a customer-facing role and offering a consultative service to clients
7. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently
The Benefits:
Competitive salary package - £35k - £45K depending on experience. More qualified candidates would be welcome to apply, and a more competitive salary would be discussed if additional experience can be brought to the role. This is an office-based role; however, flexible working can be offered. Early finish on a Friday: 8am – 5pm (Mon-Thu), 8am – 4pm (Fri). 24 days of annual leave + bank holidays, with an additional day for every 3 years of service.
