To provide three and two course meals for the clients of the Day Service and Meals on Wheels service clients Tuesday to Friday. To organise, plan, and cook a three course Sunday Lunch on the second Sunday of each month, supervise the volunteers of the Sunday Lunch Club, and plan and cook more elaborate meals for celebrations of special events such as Christmas and Easter.
Hours and Rates of Pay:
27 hours per week (9:00-15:45 Tuesday through Friday) and 7 hours on the second Sunday of each month at £13.50 an hour. Reports to the Chief Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Plan and organise the cooking of a varied menu of three and two course meals for the clients of the Day Service, Meals on Wheels service, and Sunday Lunch Club in accordance with their dietary requirements, tastes, and in a cost-effective manner, minimising food waste.
2. Organise and run the Sunday Lunch on the 2nd Sunday of the month including the menu, managing the volunteers who help, and ensuring any charges are taken from clients.
3. Order ingredients for the meals in a cost-effective manner with minimal waste.
4. Occasionally plan and organise the cooking of cakes and snacks for fundraising events and more elaborate meals for special events within the centre, including the delivery of additional ingredients.
5. Monitor the freezer and kitchen appliances for any problems.
6. Maintain a high standard of food hygiene and keep up to date with changes to food hygiene law, advising on any necessary changes or maintenance work on kitchen equipment.
7. Abide by all regulations regarding the preparation, cooking, storage, and serving of food.
8. Wash and clean all items used in cooking and items needed to eat or drink within the centre, advising if any items need replacing or are needed.
9. Supervise volunteers helping within the kitchen and at the Sunday Lunch Club.
10. Provide excellent customer service to all customers, volunteers, and staff.
11. Report any problems with the kitchen or its appliances to the Deputy Manager.
12. Attend to the needs of clients, such as making conversation, assisting with walking, or giving reminders when needed.
13. Attend and participate in training and staff meetings as required.
14. Abide by Age Concern Windsor policies and procedures.
