The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer will support the engineering team in delivering innovative engineering solutions for our clients, from conception through design and project management to delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide innovative engineering solutions for the offshore energy sector.
* Carry out conceptual and detailed 3-D modelling, detailed engineering drawings and schematics; using proprietary CAD packages.
* Undertake engineering calculations, ensuring fitness for purpose of designs.
* Effective design optimisation, including the selection of components and materials.
* Carry out engineering analysis, primarily Finite Element Analysis.
* Undertake, and participate in, in-house and client-based design reviews.
* Review and checking of engineering drawings, calculations, analysis models and documentation.
* Compilation of technical documentation; reports, calculations, specifications, parts lists, assembly, test and operational procedures, manufacturing data.
* Interfacing and technical liaison with other company staff across multiple sites, as well as clients and suppliers.
* Project engineering and management of design and build projects
* Provide project cost estimating
* Monitor live budget for projects
* Liaison with 3rd party design verification bodies
* Provide offshore engineering support activities from onshore, as well as from location offshore, as required.
* Provide day to day Engineering support and advice to Manufacturing and Test & Assembly Departments.
Essential Experience:
* Minimum of 7 years of engineering design experience of subsea technology and marine handling equipment.
* Experience should ideally have been gained in the design for manufacture environment.
* Strong grasp of mechanical engineering subjects, particularly structural mechanics and materials technology.
* Sound understanding of conceptual and detailed design processes for cost effective manufacture.
* Strong analytical skills, including Finite Element Analysis.
* Good understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining and fabrication.
* Good working knowledge of engineering software – such as Solidworks, Mathcad and ANSYS Static Structural
* Experience of working with third party certifying bodies as part of design verification process
* Excellent written/spoken communication skills.
* Self-motivated with strong initiative.
* Professional, reliable and consistent approach to work.
* Highly presentable manner.
* Able to work independently and within small team to agreed deadlines and priorities
Qualifications:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
* Working towards, or already achieved Chartered Engineer Status (desirable).
