Job Details This is an 18 month project on a new Brighton site, starting in January 2025. Key Responsibilities: Hoist Operation: Safely operate the construction hoist to transport personnel, materials, and equipment to designated floors or levels. Monitor the load limits of the hoist and ensure compliance with site regulations to avoid overloading. Follow instructions from site managers and supervisors for the safe operation of the hoist. Safety Monitoring: Ensure that safety barriers, gates, and doors are in place and functional before operating the hoist. Carry out safety checks on the hoist at the beginning of each shift and report any malfunctions or faults immediately. Follow all safety procedures to ensure the safe movement of materials and workers, including the correct securing of loads. Communication and Coordination: Communicate effectively with other site personnel via radio or hand signals to coordinate hoist movements. Follow lifting plans provided by the site supervisor or lifting coordinator to ensure safe hoist operation. Coordinate with crane operators and other site workers to avoid collisions or hazards during lifting operations. Load Handling: Ensure that materials are safely and securely loaded and unloaded from the hoist. Supervise the loading process to ensure correct distribution and balancing of weight on the hoist platform. Inspect all loads for stability and safety before lifting. Routine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on the hoist, such as checking cables, pulleys, and brakes. Lubricate and clean parts of the hoist to keep it in good working condition. Report any mechanical or electrical issues to the site manager for repair. Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety regulations on-site, including wearing required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times. Conduct risk assessments and ensure lifting operations are carried out in compliance with site-specific safety policies. Assist in emergency evacuations if necessary, ensuring that the hoist is operated safely during emergencies. Skills and Qualifications: CPCS or NPORS Card (Hoist Operator): Essential qualification for operating hoists on UK construction sites. Safety Critical Medical Experience: Previous experience operating construction hoists is preferred. Health and Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of UK health and safety regulations, particularly those relating to lifting operations. Knowledge of Hoist Equipment: Familiarity with the operation, controls, and basic maintenance of construction hoists. Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with other workers and follow instructions precisely. Physical Fitness: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform tasks that may require physical exertion. Desirable: First Aid Certification. Experience with Different Types of Hoists: Familiarity with both passenger and material hoists. Mechanical Aptitude: Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems used in hoists.
