Whilst the role involves operational supervision, you will also be responsible for performing a broad range of simple to complex pre-analytical procedures consistently and accurately and maintaining competence in the operational aspects of the Core Laboratory unit.
Perform quality duties relating to the role including document control, record keeping and appropriate use of internal quality control systems.
Key competencies (role specific criteria):
* This is a modern laboratory with a positive culture and a high performing team, so qualities of resilience, well-developed communication skills and ability to contribute positively to a team environment are essential. (Central Specimen Reception Team > 20 staff)
* Experience in pre-analytical processes, e.g. sorting, coding, data entry, aliquoting, parcel management, storage, retrieval of specimens etc, in a large and complex core laboratory unit.
* Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
* High level leadership skills and a demonstrated willingness to succeed.
* Proven ability to manage time effectively in a highly process driven environment with competing priorities.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to meet and exceed client expectations.
* Highly developed customer focus with experience dealing with a variety of people and a high level of awareness of impact of the individual on the overall customer experience.
* Sound understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
* Awareness of the human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements:
* Nil mandatory qualifications are required for this role although a Certificate III Pathology (or similar) or ability to gain this qualification is desirable.
* The CSR department delivers a 24-hour, 7-day service. In this workplace, all newly appointed Clinical Assistant Laboratory staff are contracted to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required. This facilitates the progressive review of staffing and shift arrangements in the laboratory to accommodate changes in workload and service requirements.
* The successful applicant will work one of three shifts between 0600 and 2300 but may be expected to participate in overnight rosters depending on the needs of the department.
