Currently the unit is open 07.00 - 18:00 Monday to Friday. Main duties of the job Key components of the role of the pre-operative assessment nurse are preparing the patient, and those close to them, for their forthcoming surgery, physically, psychologically and through education. Thorough assessment and appropriate actions are key to highlighting and minimising operative risk, and delivering safe outcomes, through careful pathway planning. In this role you will be expected to physically examine the cardiovascular and respiratory systems in defined patients, so experience in this area would be a real asset. You will be a motivated individual who ideally should have current or recent experience in acute surgical pathways, although assessing acutely ill medical patients could also be just as useful.
