Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the team at STEPS Rehabilitation based in Sheffield as we expand our services.
The role of the Specialist Occupational Therapist (OT) is to provide high quality holistic therapy to our clients throughout their journey alongside the inter-disciplinary team.
STEPS provides high quality care and rehabilitation to residential and outpatient clients with a range of neurological conditions and complex trauma injuries.
Main duties of the job
* Assess and provide OT assessment and intervention, addressing occupational performance in the areas of self-care, leisure and productivity.
* Deliver specialist OT assessment and intervention to clients within specialist clinical areas.
* Undertake the client key worker role within STEPS Rehabilitation.
* Involve clients and carers in the development and delivery of goals within the rehabilitation plan.
* Assess, implement and monitor individual client rehabilitation plans.
* Carry out community visits and home assessments to support a client's transition from STEPS.
* Identify a range of specialist equipment to optimise functional independence, quality of life and manage risk.
* Complete required documentation including clinical notes and comprehensive reports in a timely manner.
* Ensure accurate recording and monitoring of relevant outcome measures.
* Apply manual handling principles as outlined by legislation and department procedures.
* Adhere to and carry out individual client risk assessments.
* In conjunction with the wider interdisciplinary team, ensure personal care and nutritional needs of clients are met.
* Be flexible and able to offer support to other clinical areas as required.
* Provide supervision and support to junior OTs, assistants and students.
* Have an awareness of current evidence-based OT practice and research relevant to the client group.
* Initiate and lead on service development projects in conjunction with the wider interdisciplinary team, education, training, audits with support from Lead OT/ Head of Therapies.
* Identify service equipment needs and resources to the Lead OT/ Head of Therapy.
* Comply with the clinical governance requirements operating within STEPS procedures.
* Act upon and escalate issues as required following STEPS guidance and operating procedures.
* Adhere to the Royal College of OT code of ethics and professional conduct.

STEPS is a purpose-built 23-bedroom rehabilitation facility, able to deliver high-quality care from a range of medical and rehabilitation specialists on Abbeydale Road, Sheffield. It is a unique environment that provides rehabilitation to clients who have suffered serious injuries and debilitating neurological illnesses.
STEPS has been designed to feel non-clinical, comfortable and homely. Our specialists work collaboratively under one roof, and clients can access a wide range of therapies and specialist robotic and VR rehabilitation equipment. You will be working within our interdisciplinary team comprised of consultants in rehabilitation medicine, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, neuro-psychologists, and nurses experienced in complex care. Experience
Essential
* Minimum of 2 years clinical experience working in Neurological care or complex Trauma/SCI.
* Specialist rehabilitation experience in treating clients with motor, sensory, cognitive, perceptual, emotional and psychological problems.
* Knowledge in wheelchairs, seating and postural management.
* Managing own workload.
* Experience of supervising, supporting and delegating to OTs, assistants or students.
* Experience in assessing for equipment.
* Setting and reviewing client-centered goals.
* Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
* IT experience including Microsoft Office packages.
* Experience of working within governance frameworks, clinical systems, data management, complaints, reporting incidents.
Desirable
* Clinical experience in Neurological rehabilitation.
* Experience in spinal injuries.
* Experience in traumatic amputee rehab.
* Experience in Neurological handling skills.
* Casting and Splinting experience.
* Evidence of Post Grad level in specialism/Masters level study.

Qualifications
Essential
* Registered with HCPC.
* Degree level qualification in Occupational Therapy.
* Evidence of continuing professional development including postgraduate courses/qualifications.
* Qualification/short courses in staff management/supervision.

* Membership of Royal College of Occupational Therapists and a relevant specialist section group.
* Key trainer/train the trainer qualification.
* Leadership, mentorship or supervisory course.
* Clinical Educators Course.
