A well-established and highly respected contractor is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their growing team in London. This role is an opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of complex projects across civil engineering, infrastructure, and structural works, helping to shape the built environment with innovative and sustainable design solutions.\n\nThe company is known for delivering technically challenging projects, working with some of the industry's leading clients. As a Design Manager, you'll play a key role in ensuring designs are developed, coordinated, and implemented effectively, balancing technical, commercial, and programme requirements.\n\nThe Role\n\nAs the Design Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the entire design process, from pre-construction through to project completion.
This role requires close collaboration with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams, ensuring that all design elements align with project specifications, budgets, and timelines.\n\nKey responsibilities include:\n\nLeading the design process from concept through to construction, ensuring all technical requirements and client expectations are met.\nCoordinating with architects, engineers, and specialist consultants to develop cost-effective and efficient design solutions.\nEnsuring compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and contractual obligations.\nManaging risks and identifying opportunities for value engineering and design optimisation.\nReviewing and approving technical drawings, models, and documentation, ensuring accuracy and feasibility.\nLiaising with project managers and site teams to facilitate smooth project execution and resolve any design-related issues.\nOverseeing design change management, ensuring revisions are implemented effectively without impacting project delivery.The ideal candidate will have:\n\nProven experience as a Design Manager in the construction, civil engineering, or structural sectors.\nStrong technical expertise in design principles, construction methodologies, and relevant industry regulations.\nExperience managing the design process on medium to large-scale projects, ensuring seamless coordination between multiple stakeholders.\nThe ability to interpret and critique design information, identifying potential risks and opportunities for improvement.\nA proactive and problem-solving mindset, with excellent attention to detail.\nStrong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with project teams.\nA degree or professional qualification in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related discipline.With a strong pipeline of exciting projects across London, this role offers long-term career progression, ongoing professional development, and the chance to work on some of the most challenging and rewarding projects in the industry.\n\nAldwych Consulting values diversity and promotes equality.
